Mike Rogers wants us divided. But there is so much more that unites us than sets us apart. The power is ours. This land was made for you and me.
This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.
The couple’s arrest outside Midway Airport aligns with what immigration attorneys across the country have observed in recent months: an increase in ICE arrests at airports of people traveling domestically with expired visas but pending immigration cases. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/05/c...
Haha Appleton your devil’s bargain is tax-exempt now. Wages of concentration camps.
A day after CoreCivic announced it was reopening the long-shuttered private prison it owns in Appleton, Minn., the company said it was selling the facility to the federal government for almost half a billion dollars.

Powerful interests are fighting like hell to protect the status quo. They know my opponent will do their bidding, and I won’t.
The board of a Michigan township agreed to rezone a terrain to make way for a data center. Residents opposed to the data center forced a vote on the matter, and they blocked the rezoning tonight: www.mlive.com/news/ann-arb...
forgive my DCer resentment upon being reminded how easy it is to have great outdoors spaces and food in Europe while in the US public authorities track any evidence of such spaces to find new ways to maximize car space.
if Muriel Bowser were the mayor of the lovely city where I’m enjoying a wonderful outdoor drink and dinner right now, she’d immediately shut this entire thing down and force everyone indoors
NEW: Republicans tried to get Missourians to effectively kill direct democracy and ballot initiatives. Last night, Missourians literally laughed in their face — rejecting the measure by a massive 80% to 20%. Here’s what to know:

Missourians on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted against a measure to restrict direct democracy, while state officials are trying to block even more citizen-led reforms from the November ballot.

It’s a red-leaning county, but the school board in one of Tennessee counties known for school bans has a 5-4 GOP majority only and I for one am watching to see what happens next week. boltsmag.org/whats-on-the...

Immensely grateful to do this with the thoughtful mental health practitioner and policy professional Noel Nix. His insights were illuminating and you should tune in to hear them. Thank you to Angela Davis and the MPR team for creating space for this thought provoking discussion.
I’m a better council member, community member, and just Aurin for doing it. I commend the several local leaders, especially the women who have been taking their mental health seriously and have been opening the door for everyone to have the room to do so as well.
I shared why I felt it was important to tell my constituents earlier this year about my diagnosis and experience. They deserve to know, they deserve hear from me seeking help is not a sign of weakness but of strength, and to know that normalizing mental health needs and challenges is important.
I have loved serving as the 12th Ward Council Member on behalf of the community I love, in the best city in the world, and being responsive and frontline to these moments of crisis have come at a personal cost.
Honored to be on Angela Davis’ MPR News Show- Wellness Wednesday to have a conversation on Mental Health challenges that can face public officials. Give it a listen: www.mprnews.org/episode/2026...
I shared my story on being diagnosed with PTSD and acute stress earlier year during Operation Metro Surge following years of service that entailed violence, tragedy, and required shared community resilience & perseverance.
The Council Members that were out on the streets every single day during the Surge put their bodies and mental health on the line. I’m glad Aurin is talking about this, and I hope all of our precious council members are taking care of themselves now.

NEW: Eleventh Circuit, on an 8-5 vote, holds that Florida's anti-drag law is likely constitutional. A majority of the court, however, disagreed with Just Brasher that the court should rule on whether the statewide injunction entered in the case was an improper "universal injunction." Law Dork:

Great writeup from Chris, as always, but I feel compelled to add that Rosenbaum's dissent includes lengthy description (w/ photo!) of Jimbo's bologna performance. Which FL officials had previously used to justify trying to shutdown a drag venue. Despite the absence of any sexual content or nudity

obviously it's not a silver bullet but hochul seeing the upside of this kind of you set em up, i knock em down politics is really good news for left/center-left relationships in the next 10 years of democratic politics. maybe the one thing most of us completely 100% agree on.
new: Gov. Hochul's office is actively looking into any potential tax fraud revealed through the rollout of NYC's pied-à-terre tax, a spokesperson says. e.g., cases where someone claims to live here most of the time, but doesn't pay NYC taxes, or has their car registered elsewhere

i’m gonna expand on this. when we say, “destroy everything,“ it means medications, ID, phone if they have it, birth certificate/Social Security card if they have it, last mementos or even ashes from loved ones, Clothing, Food, Library card... You name it. & actively being criminalized for it.
for those moots who are not locals, the major of St. Paul has chosen to destroy two homeless encampments in St. Paul with no real plans for the people being displaced. when they do this, they literally just bring skid loaders through and destroy everything
