Future historian department: -Front page of today's NYT reports creation of world's first trillionaire. -Lead op-ed of same NYT is about worst-ever Ebola outbreak, which *this VERY SAME trillionaire* enabled, with his "chainsaw" destruction of US public health in the world. The book writes itself

These people were in Lenin’s term: “useful idiots.” They hold tremendous responsibility for amplifying and giving credibility to those who are now destroying American science, public health and medicine. And they’ll never express remorse.

MAHA doctors had a robust support network in medicine, the media, and academia that legitimized their COVID disinformation and promised they would restore trust at the NIH and FDA. I disagreed. Time for an update. My latest.

Katalin Karikó is one of the most extraordinary scientific stories of this era. A girl from a modest Hungarian household helped develop technology that saved millions of lives worldwide. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for discoveries that enabled effective mRNA vaccines.

SHE WAS DEMOTED, UNDERPAID, AND IGNORED FOR 40 YEARS. HER
UNIVERSITY TOLD HER MRNA RESEARCH WAS WORTHLESS. HER COLLEAGUES STOPPED TAKING HER SERIOUSLY. SHE EARNED $50,000 A YEAR FOR FOUR DECADES. THEN COVID ARRIVED - AND, SHE WON THE NOBEL PRIZE.

Capitalists want young marriage and many children solely for a controlled labour force. People who are educated, live comfortably and are free to make choices are unpredictable and less likely to enslave themselves to employers.

The @nationalacademies.org have lost the plot. As @joshuasweitz.bsky.social explains science is under siege and we are sliding towards a profound degradation of research and discovery capabilities in the US. What is wrong with these people. #VichyScientists, each and every one of them. 1/

Announcement for @nationalacademies.org "State of the Science" address on 6/2 declares: "Since McNutt delivered her 2025 address, federal funding for science has held steady, but significant cuts are still being considered." Really? On what planet is funding steady & cuts being *considered*? a 🧵

At the time of its release, in April '88, Tracy Chapman's debut sounded like nothing else on rock radio. You'd hear Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Eagles. And then, Fast Cars. It was a breath a fresh air and reminded me of Joan Armatrading's work. The whole LP has aged well and remains relevant, powerful.

"Palantir is not just a problem of profiteering from our national healthcare system— it's a fundamental threat to the democratic control of our public infrastructure + the privacy of every citizen. By giving our taxes to this company, we are aiding their operations everywhere." tinyurl.com/3ejuyv89

We can’t trust Palantir with our NHS data

Is this really the company we should be entrusting with our health service’s digital architecture?

A worker died at an Amazon warehouse in Oregon last week. For more than an hour, workers were instructed to continue working as the man lay dead. One worker wanted to help, but a manager told them to “Just turn around and not look. Let’s get back to work," according to @thewesternedge.bsky.social.

What else am I doing to help Gaza? Well, I’m currently doing research and advocacy work around protecting civilians from being murdered by small drones (which is horrifyingly common today). Here’s a map I’ve made of verified drone attacks in Gaza: map.faineg.com/public/index...

Yes, I have donated and fundraised for friends from Gaza before in case you’re wondering, but I don’t talk about it much on here because those people are human beings and not advertisements for my own morality. Anyway, please donate to these genuine charities today:
