🔶 Working hard for Southwark all year round | Published and promoted by M. J. McClaren on behalf of Liberal Democrats all at 1 Vincent Sq, London, SW1P 2PN.

Meet Cllr David Watson 👋🏼 David has represented Borough & Bankside since 2022 and is now in charge of Community Safety and Engagement. His priorities: tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, and fixing residents' experience of the council after years of Labour failure.

The clock is already ticking, Andy. The way we vote is (like so much else in our system) a Victorian relic. Almost every other country in the world has ditched it. With fair votes, we can have fairer, clearer and better informed debates on the most important issues - and get better solutions too.

Congrats Cllr Hellen Benavides on chairing the first Housing Scrutiny Commission under Southwark’s new Joint Administration. The Commission scrutinised the Council’s Good Landlord Plan, helping ensure we continue improving housing services & delivering better outcomes for residents.

We will continue to be at the whim of volatile global markets, dictators like Putin and warmongers like Trump until we completely break the link between electricity and gas prices. Liberal Democrats have a plan to do this and a fully costed package to halve energy bills in the next decade.

Too many people are trapped in leasehold - with rising service charges, ground rent, and little say over their own homes. Labour are being too timid and too slow to abolish this outdated, feudal system. Liberal Democrats want to go further, faster, & will take local action where they can.

The first results have started coming back from the first survey of council homes in almost 16 years - and it's shown that thousands of homes aren't meeting bare minimum standards of safety and state of repair. Liberal Democrats would overhaul Labour's rotten housing department

Labour have overseen a housing crisis that's left 22,000 households on the social housing waiting list, and forcing families to move out, with seven schools closing in the last few years. In 15 out of 23 wards - zero council homes have been started by Southwark Labour.
