i think part of the social disconnect between how AI is marketed vs received is that it promises an isolated life comprised only of a frictionless parade of your own desires, and the rich people pushing it can’t comprehend any other mode of engaging with the world

If the AI era has taught us anything, it’s this: it’s fine to judge people based on their aesthetic preferences

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1
