Lawyer, civil servant, Londoner, Doctor Who fan, maritorious, mother of a spinky, God-botherer. Mostly doomscrolling, telly chat and terrible jokes. All views my own. She/Her.

I am one (ONE) paid sub off a nice round number, so why not come in for £1 a month and make a happy man very old?

We’ll have multiple pieces each week for the rest of October thanks to #lff #londonfilmfestival & #horroctober (h/t @princecharlescinema.com), with one film that qualifies for both. £1.00 a month for most of this stuff, with a free tier for a taste of it. #filmsky www.patreon.com/cw/MiddayMat...

Brother staying over for an early train, asks to be woken up. 9 yo offers to handle it. With a deafening cry of “HE’S GOING TO LOVE THIS” he: - Sets up flamenco music on his tablet. - Dances into brother’s room. - Yells “WAKE UP NOW PLEASE” - Dances out of the room. Brother is, indeed, awakened.

I would also like to add Justin Johnson’s priceless Brian Blessed story from the recording of the Cutaway Comics bonus commentary. BB is merrily TALKING when he stops dead- “OH SHIT! I FORGOT KENNETH BRANAGH’S COMING TO TEA!” Followed by a confused Sir Kenneth looming into view on the webcam…

“things you could have removed while you waited were your wallet, your stomach lining, your mind and your will to live. The muggers and pushers and pimps and hamburger salesmen, in no particular order, could arrange all these things for you.” Kings Cross as described by [checks notes] Douglas Adams

I get the appeal of nostalgia, I really do, but I find it specifically funny to get a leaflet from Reform's candidate talking about how when he was in the Met 31 years ago, he would never have dreamed of lawlessness like the kind we now see in Kings Cross.

Very good news- the story’s brilliant. It’s unadaptable, but I’d love to see Conan Doyle’s The Silver Mirror because the narrator’s wonderful. He’s susceptible to supernatural events not because he’s a believer or a sceptic but because he’s exhausting himself to bring down a corrupt businessman.

A reverse example: the Outpost Gallifrey poster claiming to be Nik Kershaw (including memories of Live Aid) but when [redacted member of household] referred to this on Twitter tagging the official account the man himself denied it. I think about the motivation behind this, more often than I’d like.

I don't think they'll ever recreate what it was like to be on twitter in the 2010s. Soap opera stuff happening constantly. Poster you were vaguely aware of involved in federal fentanyl bust. Poster whose jokes you occasionally liked posed as his aunt (or wife?) for 6 years. Pastor who steals jokes

We’re having the kitchen skylight replaced. 9yo has asked whether we can use the hole in the ceiling to install a bed pulley trapdoor like Wallace’s “so I can slide down into the kitchen and have my breakfast like The Wrong Trousers”. Jim: “it wouldn’t be *impossible*.”

Catching up with #70up - the observer effect: Michael Apted is an actual participant, Charles on the consent and editorial issues, Jackie’s partner saw her on the previous programmes, giving Nick something to look forward to as he reached the end, all the concluding reflections.
