The only thing that we really have going for us is that our opponents are idiots. They believe things that are demonstrably not true and will consistently make choices based on those falsehoods, and then be surprised when extremely predictable things happen.
There's a lot that is nuts about this, but how do you reach 94% of your goal and then decide that 94% was your target?

The biggest assurance that trans women are indeed women, is that white cis men decided they can tell us who we are, how to dress and that we must ask permission to use the bathroom and get healthcare.
There are a lot of jokes that will be made about this, but for me it's just too damned disgusting to see any humor.

I think Thiel and his buddies thought that they could continue the gradual overthrow of democratic systems by technocrats, and he thought that Trump could be a useful tool for that. But Trump is a bloated, fat stumbling pig in a china store and gave us a glimpse of what's coming if we change course.

One thing that discourages me from getting back into the IT industry is the class of manager that I see running things. It seems like a lot almost everyone I ever worked for knew less about what we were doing than everyone they were managing.
I remember back in the 70s and 80s when the popular wisdom was that by constantly increasing defense spending we were forcing the Soviets to do the same which would ultimately bankrupt them. Now here we are doing it to ourselves for no reason whatsoever.

On paper, Ride or Die sounds like a really good show. Two excellent actors with comedic and dramatic chops, doing buddy action stuff. In reality, it's better than really good. Hannah Waddingham makes me believe she could kick my ass, and Octavia Spencer is more than just a straight man.

So many of the things that I see being developed are things that I think we absolutely need if we want to sustain ourselves and our planet, but they are all being developed by the worst people. Neurolink and useful AI would both be huge boons, but they're both being produced by idiots.
Are autistic people unable to pick up on social cues and body language, or are they just distracted by the million things running through their minds at any given time?
The last time that there was a significant split in the Democratic Party, it was between progressives who wanted Civil Rights reform and "moderate" southern Democrats who were racist AF.
Story time: Back in high school, I started a D&D club, and it was very cool. We attracted people from every clique, from the nerds to the jocks. People who didn't have any friends otherwise were encouraged to join. With one, Jay, we found out why he didn't have any friends.

I like yoga, but I think too many people imbue it with too much mysticism. It's very important to stretch and to have an intimate awareness of and relationship with your own body, but I think yoga should be a starting point for that and not the destination.
Man... right after 9/11 I tried to warn everyone that they were going to warp the definition of the word "terrorism" and use it as a weapon against anyone who doesn't fall in line. I really hate being right sometimes.

I always wondered what it would take for the Telegraph to decide there might be a downside to climate breakdown. Well, now we know. Even so, this article manages not to mention it.
At this point I would probably prefer the darkest time line to the stupidest timeline.

Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social · 2w agoIt's darkly depressing that the entire GOP -- from the White House to Congress to the Supreme Court -- insists that the president and his aides cannot be held accountable for all the very clear crimes that they clearly committed, but they think Dr. Fauci should hang for alleged mishandling of COVID.
As a kid in my tiny hometown, I thought that I was probably the smartest person in the world. Bad grades, discouraging teachers and parents, and persistent failure could not teach me otherwise. Now I'm grown, and I know that I was never the smartest in the world, but I probably was in my hometown.
The new Kevin Hart movie on Netflix, 72 Hours, is pretty fun, but Hart is by far the least fun thing in it. All of his younger castmates (especially Anna Garcia) and one castmate whose name I will not divulge were far more entertaining. Hart was fine, but they were all great.
Based on how many kids, journalists, and first responders Israel is murdering, seems like the safest way to survive is as a HAMAS member.
I will go a step further. I think that for at least some of them it is a selling point. They want to rape little girls too and it makes them feel like less of a POS if their President does.

Today in a VES committee meeting some dude suggested using generative AI to make more interesting thumbnails for videos on the VES YouTube channel to get more views. And I had to remind everyone that we’re supposed to be an organization representing and promoting artists and WTF is wrong with them?
