We were absolutely blown away by the incredible submissions we received during our first reading period. Consider this your backstage pass: the numbers, the pop culture, and the wonderfully unhinged range of obsessions you sent us. Issue 1 is just ONE MONTH away!
The first day of school and it's raining. Drop-off line should be LIT.
This month's craft essay is live at No Failure, Only Practice! This month, I'm focused on getting to know characters through their own self-myths, asking, "What is the story my characters telling themselves about themselves? What does that story get right and what does it get wrong?"

Finished reading @saralippmann.bsky.social's new novel Hidden River aloud to my wife this morning, snuggled up in bed, a sleepy, dreamy start to an ordinary weekend day. A stunning achievement, this book, by one of our most talented and giving modern authors. I can't recommend it enough.
Our 2027 Best of the Net nominations are now open until September 30th! For more information on how to submit, go to bestofthenetanthology.com/submissions/ or use the link in our bio. We look forward to seeing your nominations! #bestofthenet #writingcommunity
Indeed has a job posting for an FBI agent. Might apply. Shoot for the stars, etc.

Every year I have to pinch myself that I get to be a part of this wonderful conference. If you haven't signed up yet, make sure you check out the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference hosted by Piper Center at ASU
My daughter and I watched T2: Judgement Day. There's a scene where the terminator kills John's foster parents while the dog barks outside. My daughter goes, "he's not going to kill the dog right?" and I said "no of course not!" but then the terminator killed the dog, so I guess I forgot that part. 😬
Happy National Arizona Day! 🌵🏜️🌵 Every year, June 21 celebrates Arizona’s places, history, people, and cultures, and I hope you'll support the work of wonderful Arizona writers (just to name a few)! Viva Arizona!
Today is my birthday, blah, blah, etc., but most importantly I’m back to an even-numbered age and this pleases me more than anything.
Done! Fun grit lit with the added bonus of hearing @stephanieaustin.bsky.social as the narrating voice the whole time I was reading :)
Starting small by hosting an Analog Salon. Coffee, cake, writing, drawing, chatting.
I'm sorry did we need another Masters of the Universe movie? I feel like it could have ended with Dolph Lundgren.

Only a high of 88 today? Deeply sus weather in Phoenix. 👀
My daughter is taking an art class this summer, and on a "get to know you" section of a form for her teacher, she wrote "I like big butts and I cannot lie". I pointed to it and said, "I don't know if that's okay for school," and she said, "Mom, it's a song." 🫠
Catching up on all the reading I meant to do this past semester. Cracked open @pahoehoe.bsky.social's new book The Divide. Every story is a gem and a delight. Beautiful character building in this collection. www.evanmorganwilliams.com/purchases

How many new podcasts start up everyday? 100? 400?
Took my daughter to see Michael (the Michael Jackson "biopic") because she asked to see it (MJ having a resurgence for the 25 and under crowd). Here is my official review of Michael: Michael Jackson. He's a little eccentric. Don't you remember how much you loved his music?
