Its time we accept that our governments don’t view housing as a human right. They do respect property rights, as we saw when ABC councillors expressed empathy for home owners facing negative impacts from the Villages Plan. But in the same week, renters at Myron Manor were given zero consideration.
Today ABC voted to displace a building of renters for hotel, many of whom are low income seniors who will not find replacement housing in their n’hood. A community who looks out for each other, gone. Like so many before them. This is not the Council decision causing the most angst on my timeline.
NEW at City Hall: Ken Sim and ABC just voted against restoring the Renters Office. ABC eliminated this office dedicated to supporting at-risk tenants back in January 2023. We're going to restore the Renters Office after we evict ABC in October.
NEW: ABC just voted to demovict and displace working class tenants in Mt Pleasant. They voted to destroy Myron Manor, replacing affordable rental homes with a boutique hotel. @stephanieformayor.bsky.social
A few months ago ABC defeated a motion from Councillor @seanorr.bsky.social to study options for a publicly-owned or community-operated grocery store on City land in Vancouver. Election Day is October 17th. Volunteer: www.evictkensim.ca Chip in: www.votecope.ca/donate
Today Zohran is announcing that the New York City-owned grocery stores his administration is piloting will discount staple items 30%. Core groceries like produce, meat, seafood, pasta, bread, yogurt, butter, nuts, rice and beans will all receive this price cut.
A toxic beach is bad for everyone - homeowners, renters, tourists, and obviously our wildlife. Don’t let big oil ruin Vancouver. Let’s join the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and COPE Councillor @seanorrofficial and RESIST development without protections for our residents and our environment.

Smoky skies in Toronto have led to new scrutiny of government efforts to fight fires and manage forests. But scientists say the realistic way to tackle the smoke is fighting climate change itself.

'Undemocratic': ABC Vancouver and Ken Sim face blowback | Daily Hive | Urbanized
ABC Vancouver and Mayor Ken Sim are facing blowback on a couple of key issues that were revealed this week.

We need a Mayor who is focused on the needs of the people, not on their junkets and crypto investments. This October we're going to Evict Ken Sim and elect Stephanie Allen, a mayor who will show up to work every day to fight for Vancouver. @stephanieformayor.bsky.social @seanorr.bsky.social
We need people. If you live in BC, and have an hour or two to spare in a month, we need your help! We need help with: - putting up posters - writing emails - doing online research - making posters, leaflets - making videos If you can do any of them, please reply/DM
Amazing night talking to voters before the new Boots Riley film ‘I Love Boosters’ and then meeting the genius himself. Cuz when art meets the political moment, powered by the people, we will change the world. ✊🏽❤️✌🏽

Lowering the costs to market developers/builders *without* making it a requirement that these savings are passed on to renters/buyers will just create a better profit margin for investors. I havent seen any such requirements from city/provincial/federal cost cutting programs.
