I really like this because when you identify emissions as the cause, the solution is clear- end the emissions. When you say the cause is climate change, while true, it takes a minute to get to the solution and you lose people. End fossil fuel emissions, it's clear.

Was trying to do an annual update, but it has come to my realization that Trump wiped everything between FY2024 and FY2026 from the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub. @thexylom.com now has one of the last independent copies of data re: H-1B skilled workers in America's top higher education institutions.

The Most Detailed Maps of H-1B Visa Holders Joining America's Top Research Institutions

A new analysis by The Xylom shows for the first time just how much America’s top research institutions have grown to depend on the specialized knowledge of H-1B skilled workers — and how this delicate...

EXCLUSIVE: A new analysis by The Xylom's @alexip718.com shows for the first time just how much America’s top research institutions have grown to depend on H-1B skilled workers — and how this delicate balance might be disrupted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s crackdown on legal immigration.

Side quest: My dad ILL'd a fiction read (his PL is not part of a consortium 😭) and I found great pleasure in telling him that every ILL costs money and that's his tax dollars at work (thankfully he would not repeat this rudely to a library worker when something goes sideways)

Some titles are from academic pubs, which means they are overpriced. (Don't get me started on THIS topic.) Check your local library, & if they don't have the title, use interlibrary loan. What is ILL? You request a title from another library, it's sent to your home library. Tada! You have the book.

this is an interesting interview and if i were clipping it for social media i would have excerpted "We're still a place where we don't downrank links. We love sending traffic to people. We send two million clicks a day to publishers" rather than the part that'll just piss people off lol

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

I realize these are all things that sex workers have told us and could tell us better. Consumer-facing AI is basically a sex worker so of course it’s personalizing various iterations of financial domination for men because that’s what they want.

UGH ARCHIVIST SALARIES. Glad we see more posted and so depressing to see 2 NYC jobs today at max $65k (5+ yrs exp) and $73k (6+ yrs). That is entry level in a mid-size city. YOTBA for eternity, apparently
