like unsheathed sword, I thrust coffee cup toward sleep I once adored. heavy leaded blow absorbed, black of night left gored — step out front door. out I pour restored, dayshift brewing for more; sleep laid to rest on killing floor. #shift #vss365

A group of friends #shift realities when they bite down on purple pears. The ground rises up in front of them, creating a stairway to the clouds, and they crumple faded gift vouchers between their stained fingers as they watch the sun vanish. #vss365

Might as well milk my Odysseus material while the film is trending… In this fragmentary frieze, we see Odysseus nearing the sirens who are shown in fully female form. He seems to struggle to free himself, lured by their deadly song, while one of the crew adjusts his ropes. 🕰️C2nd BC 🏛️BM 📷 mine

- this careworn coastline, winds wend through the weave of my tweed. memories seek to soak me, corrode me in brine, the trees lean east toward Skibbereen. rains blacken the road to Glandore. the sea remembers, like me, your song caught in her contentious tides. - #poetry #vss365 ☘️

Went to the Rijksmuseum voor Oudheden (Dutch National Antiquities Museum) in Leiden yesterday. They have a superb display of Dutch archeological history, from 300,000 years ago to the Early Modern Era. And this, the stunning Dorestad brooch, made 750-800 CE.

A highly decorated circular brooch made of gold and inlaid with lots of gems. A large red oval stone in the centre, with four smaller red stones at top and bottom, left and right, with the left stone missing. Fine inlays, predominantly red and green, with decorative curled cutouts shaped like ram's horns near the edge

The #tailwind helped define the children's paths. Some were happy for the guidance but others tried to resist as they had changed their minds. If they resisted hard enough, the tailwind switched direction and took them to their new paths where uncertainty and potentially joy awaited them. #vss365

An altar to Diana and Apollo which was dedicated by Marcus Cocceius Firmus - a Centurion of the Second Augusta Legion. It was found at Auchendavy Roman Fort in East Dunbartonshire, and is now part of the collections at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow 📸 My own #EpigraphyTuesday

My #balance isn’t what it used to be, I think to myself as I stumble out of my parked car. Five steps from the roadside, I piss against a pine tree and look up at the full moon. Branches snap to my right. Twirling around, I struggle with my zipper. Two golden orbs appear from behind a bush. #vss365
