I am only partially caught up on the Cambridge affair, but the defense that "you would find similar plaigarism in everyone's work!" is insulting to the hard work of everyone in academia who strive to produce original, rigorous research.

It's weird that the current centrist "why don't people like Starmer despite all his achievements" discourse completely ignores Mandelson and Epstein. Maybe part of the issue is that the labour right had some terrible people in it!

I think a lot of people are happy with this - they just don't see it as a product of Starmer, who has largely ran away from most of these achievements, and then suspended the whip over 2-child, banned palestine action, and gone hard right on immigration.
