One lesson is that the opposition was not scattered or weak. The core of the opposition was a unified UEFA -- the largest and most powerful federation. Lesson applied: imagine if the presidents of the wealthiest private universities and state flagships worked *together* against the Trump assault.

We're near the ten-year anniversary of this interview, which was viewed as wildly controversial at the time. It led to hit pieces on me from liberal outlets like The New Republic as well as death threats. Now it's seen as conventional wisdom -- but it always was!

These RCT results (via Swayable) get at the big problem. The right wing immigration ads Dems ran both built public support for the ICE nightmare we are living now, AND were politically disastrous, showing clear backfire on candidate choice questions. They made voters want to vote for Trump.
