years ago i was chided by an Irish venue owner for booking a punk band whom he determined had Ulster ties (?) and i was like o my bad i dunno about inter-white feuding. and he yelled i'm not white i'm IRISH i didn't understand what he meant but i know a little better now🙏

Screaming, shouting, and protesting are cute, and exercising all of your freedoms of speech in defense of the Palestinians is admirable. But Mehdi is just a spectator. He's a professional spectator, jawboner, and bloviator, so he has no idea how government, diplomacy, negotiation, or strategic alliances actually work. No amount of public support in polling or public protest will influence how or when those in power drastically change Israel policy. Mehdi can hate U.S. policy toward Israel all he wants, whether it's being carried out by a Democratic or Republican president. But public opinion polls don't dictate American foreign policy. Never have. Never will.

weird how English departments are collapsing while influencers swarm the feed with 'engagement hacks' that are just narratology + rhetoric tricks feels like there should be a path forward for the humanities there? compromised, sure, but our economy is just ads + gambling atp so
