I think he's partially right. People will gravitate towards cheaper products, but planned obsolescence, private equity pushing to the extremes, and the MBA religious belief "the line must always go up" forces short-term decisions that also kill businesses.

I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.

I've been thinking about The Invite a lot. Brilliantly written and acted. Dozens of genius, layered, relationship moments. It's the kind of adult drama we don't get in theaters anymore. Everyone should go see it. Then get online and bitch about the rack focussing, so filmmakers will stop using it.

The world's first trillionaire received 38 Billion Dollars from the US government. But, no, we won't have enough money to pay for school lunches for your kids. Or give you healthcare. Reposted again... Don't buy Tesla cars etc etc

Republican senators got to do their performative yelling at Fauci for the cameras. The cult got to get all worked up into a lather. The Republican senators will now send out fundraising emails on it. The rubes will throw them some cash. Next.

Here's something I post from time to time. My answer to a reader who asked me: what could journalists do NOW to break with some of their more corrosive habits.

This is the crux of MAGA. They don't want to be inconvenienced by diverse people existing. Whether it's Ben upset over a trans actor; Vance not wanting to hear foreign languages; or Hegseth obsessed with "traditional Christian values" they are all too fragile to deal with anything slightly unusual.

But it's also very revealing. Page just being in the movie bothers Shapiro. The movie nor the character are about trans issues. They're not, "shoving it in anyone's face." Page just existing is "a pebble in (Shapiro's) shoe." Anyone different being in the world just bothers Ben.
