Calling my #paleo pals : is it standard to refer to modern countries for the distribution of prehistoric species? Because I have to say ''northern America'' and ''Western Europe'' would sound a whole lot less weird when talking about dinosaurs, than ''United States'' or ''France'' would. #science

I had an amazing time attending the eleventh THINK #conference last week. I had many inspiring conversations as we discussed AI, Science Theater, and many other topics. Here are some #insects seen in between talks, around the wonderful location we are able to organize the event at! #science

A diverse set of insects assembled on an umbellifer flower. It forms small white islands visited by a few gold flies, a small longhorn beetle, two dark sawflies, and a orange and black butterfly. The butterfly is much more noticeable than the rest, with its rich orange wings pierced by dark spots. The edge of the wings have unusual angular notches, characteristic of this genus.A relatively close shot of an antlion on a white wall. It has long clubbed antennae, a light brown head with two large black eyes, and a thin body. Its wings look delicate, with a complex network of veins forming small cells, and darker spots forming a beautiful pattern, like reverse lace.Close shot of a brown-orange Skipper butterfly perched on a bright yellow dandelion-like flower, proboscis extended while feeding against a blurred green grass background.Reddish-brown longhorn beetle with long antennae perched on a flat cluster of tiny white umbels, set against a soft green blurred background. It looks about ready to fly away.

I just voted for the future euro banknote design proposals! I liked many of the designs, but I am also quite surprised at the subjects picked for the illustrations. No hate on Wallcreepers, but they don't pop up when I think of "Patrimonial European bird" www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknot...

tbh I follow the 'urban' keyword on Science Daily because I want to be updated on research about urban processes, urban biodiversity, etc... And most of the papers in this category are about ancient cities, so not really fitting, but soooo cool 😂

Very interesting piece showing how ancient DNA can be used to investigate urban history and ancient social dynamics. Very cool! #dna #evolution #history www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...

I am surprised there isn't a lot of Open Bookshelves close to where I live in Vienna. The closest one seems to be half an hour away on foot! I guess there might be an unregistered one closer... I am relying only on the wikipedia page listing them. Anybody knows of another register? #books
