Why do people insist on quote tweeting Yougov polls as if they represent reality? Does nobody check on what Yougov is?

A riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a yorkshire pudding.
Finished reading As a Kang Should Be by @dalesmithonline.com . In some ways not what I expected at all but exactly what it ought to be, a lovely exploration of identity with vivid characters set in a dystopian future familiar to Dr Who fans. An excellent read.
I'll probably just watch that rathergood video of the misheard Madonna lyric "Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body" for a while.
As I overprinted on this one I still have plenty of copies of Combat Colin No.3 left. 40 pages collecting the Combat Colin stories from Transformers Nos.226 to 256, July 1989 to February 1990, plus bonus back up items! ko-fi.com/s/e794cb5a3f
For me, it was "have you tried reading some Carl Hiassen" when at 16 my friend sent him the first sixty pages of double-sided single-spaced typewritten manuscript of a first draft novel we were trying to write.
i have a strong belief that there's a Terry Pratchett quote for every person that sneaks in and takes root without you ever noticing, and it varies for everyone, and mine is
Privatised water has failed us. I’m backing @labourlewis.bsky.social’s call to ensure Andy Burnham meets water campaigners who’ve fought for years to clean up our water -not just the water bosses who’ve profited from the system. Add your name: actionnetwork.org/petitions/de...
Dear Andy Burnham, meet with water campaigners to discuss bringing water back into public ownership
Privatised water is a complete failure. I’m backing Clive Lewis' call to ensure that Andy Burnham meets frontline water campaigners who’ve fought for years to clean up our water -not just the water ...

Did that thing where you keep reading past the point where you would usually go to sleep because the end of the book was only 15 pages away and boy am I paying for it this morning.
Started watching the French series HPI which is the basis of the US High Potential series and enjoying Audrey Fleurot's lead performance but also how they're negotiating all the usual cliches, while also using some visual whimsy.
Our second anthology is open for submissions! We're after short stories on the theme of sorcery, from writers living in the North of England. Take a look, send us a tale - and if you could help spread the word, that would be magical 🪄 🔮 carnyxpress.co.uk/submissions/
So sad to hear the news about Justin Richards, I never met him, but I pitched to the PDAs a couple of times and was delighted to receive his kind, thoughtful feedback rather than a form response. And he wrote so well.
Well, cheat another hides a cheetah, who can leave you in the dust, and the past of might is been, so it's Dusty Bin!
One reads: “I saw one man cheat another and steal from him by force; But in this case might was right, so everybody thought. What did I see?”
That thing where you go, oh I wonder why I muted this lovely person I follow on bluesky and then after a couple of weeks you go, oh yes I remember now.
Starmer is refusing to allow debate time for the Early Day Motion about the EHRC ‘guidance’, despite it being signed by over 140 MPs. If we get 100,000 signatures on this petition we can force a debate.
As a matter of URGENCY, PLEASE could 100,000 of you sign this petition in the next week: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/77...
Holidays are good aren't they? I just had a holiday. The weather was diabolical and I had a sore foot that limited my mobility but I wrote the first draft of two short stories, went to an artisanal market, saw some art, went to a big bookshop and more.
Just thinking how much fun it would be if, like in the 90s, someone had the licence for Dr Who original novels and was given a carte blanche with the Piper Doctor (knowing how unlikely that is to be followed up on beyond maybe getting her in for a regen scene post-2031).
CONGRATS AGAIN to "THE REALITY ENGINEER" by Konstantin, an Honorable Mention, in the Internet Archive’s 2026 #PublicDomain Film Remix Contest 🏅 A scientist alters reality, only to find that each well-intentioned fix deepens the chaos. Full short ⤵️ archive.org/details/the-... #PublicDomainDay
Writing a short story with the meeting of a certain prominent surrealist and a certain prominent occultist and feel like that's probably hitting the idea that you should write for yourself slightly too hard.
Watched "I saw the TV glow" at the weekend. It is intriguingly twisty and saying something that needs thinking about, depending on which way you read the narrative.
Been great to see the #zine collection grow this last year
We've had some new shelves delivered to the library 📖 We've set them up in the zine room for all our West Midlands zines as we've had so many donations since we opened the zine room last year we wanted to highlight the work of our community #zinescene_wlv
Got to the end of Alice in Borderland S2, thinking hang on, isn't there supposed to be a S3? Kind of glad there's more as while the explanation is good, it feels like the sort that would hamper rewatches.
Went to SciFi Scarborough the other week and listened to Paul McGann say that if Who producer he would try going back to 25 minute episodes. It reminded me of something I think @lanceparkin.bsky.social said about doing Who this way & I keep thinking abt how it could be like Futurama & Rick&Morty

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/75... I’m not sure if this is even possible but as somebody somewhere said “you can have clean water and you can have privatised water but you can’t have clean privatised water”.
