Working people are facing increasingly hotter temperatures, but the Trump admin and Congress are rolling back workplace heat protections. Protecting workers means NOT exposing them to deadly extreme heat. Working people need heat safety standards NOW.
Trump Administration Is Undoing Plans to Boost Workplace Heat Protections
The Biden administration took steps to shield workers from extreme temperatures. The Trump administration is taking a gentler approach with employers.

Real footage of me reading @publicola.bsky.social describing the 46th LD Ron/Gerry/Will race as the mansplainer race. Spot on. No notes.

At my recent medical prevention appointment (a luxury in the US, I know), my doctor praised my vaccination history. She told me I was due for an MMR booster, and I said “yup, let’s do it” so quickly. Vax yourself and kiddos up!
Beautiful Seattle day to walk with the pup by water!
I read 84 books in 2026 so far. And my life is so much better because of books. Thank you, @spl.org and King Co Library!
Just a reminder, after a week full of scoops and general insanity at Seattle City Hall, that my work is funded directly and entirely by reader contributions and subscriptions. LOTS of options here, from newsletter subscriptions to one-time donations to my physical address, for checks!

So amazing to have seen Glen in concert and then have him come to us in the crowd to sing some more. 😢

Voted last week and, as usual, I put my ballot to the King County Elections ballot box!
Seattle specific comment: broken clocks are right twice a day. Free lunches for all public school students.
Thank you, @alexis4seattle.bsky.social @edclin.bsky.social & Rob Saka for voting to feed all public school children. I commend your leadership on this basic step for our city and am disappointed in leaders who fought the free public schools meals provision.
Seattleites: if you, like me, have relied on @thestranger.com for election recommendations in the past, please be aware that those recommendations have been enshittified, likely due to changes in the paper's ownership. Use the Urbanist recommendations instead:
The Urbanist Elections Committee has issued its 2026 primary election endorsements. Be sure to vote by August 4! Endorsements: www.theurbanist.org/2026-primary...
Thrifted this vintage brass bridge lamp! With a lot of elbow grease, I was able to bring back her shine and also keep some of her beautiful patina!
I’m reading a novel about class, economics, BDSM, community, chosen family, and where the woman is socialist and chides the man for being neoliberal.
A crow dive bombed me the other day. Like it hit my head! Knowing crows remember people and actions, I wondered what I possibly did to piss off my neighborhood crows. Today, I saw a sign “Beware: Aggressive Crows” at the tree where the crow was. I felt so much better that I wasn’t singled out.
And in my next life, I want to come back as SVU star, Broadway star, Knicks fan, Taylor friend, Emmy host, and all around seemingly solid cool person: Mariska Hargitay
Dammit. Now where the hell did I park my. . . Ah. Found it.
Just me over here in the PNW dressing in layers and a jacket for brunch in 60 degree weather while most posts on social media are about the heat wave.
I’m so quaint. I fight for the Oxford comma. Meanwhile, I also wish people on Reddit would just use paragraphs again.

Just one of those perfect Seattle days! Happy birthday, Becka!
Life and ADHD update: I have moved on from spending my time thrifting luxury clothes like silk skirts/dresses and cashmere sweaters to teaching myself how to do home improvement projects.
A vendor was going car-to-car in my ferry line today for petition signatures to “repeal the income tax.” (WA does not have a conventional income tax, but a new law imposes a tax on 7-figure annual income.) I asked if I could sign one INCREASING millionaire taxes but he didn’t have one of those.

Turning the White House South Lawn into a UFC venue is a historic low for presidential decorum, but watching the whole spectacle get derailed by a biblical combination of 100+ degree humidity, apocalyptic thunderstorms, and massive swarms of bugs would definitely be poetic justice.
