5/ We see compulsory voting as a response to that. Because voting is a duty - if we expect people to pay taxes or do jury service, why don't we expect them to take part in our democratic system? And because many more of us are less well represented because of low and unequal turnout.

When pay runs out before the end of the week, it's irrelevant whether the next thing you need costs 50p or £50. Before getting in an arithmetic tangle over 50p>0, pause instead on what you would do if one week you had to choose between feeding your kids or brushing their teeth.

When something is so obviously a terrible idea, it is ok to just...say no thanks and ban it. We don't have to wait 15 years and then slowly ban if after a whole bunch of irreperable damage has been done to individuals and society.
