Chicken tender & midtown Omaha gossip. Social worker & therapist. I knit & watch the Dodgers 💙

🚬 I'll tell you 1 reason why so many people are being dxed with ADHD & autism these days- it's because smoking isn't socially acceptable anymore. Smoking is a great stim & coping behavior. It helps w internal regulatory need for movement, & also helps with social anxiety & activity "grease" (focus)

💃🏻🕺🏽My friend Tina reminded me of the Naked Disco house by Danger Russ's in Lincoln, NE. We used to go to parties there in the early 90s when we were in college, & everyone would just dance naked! Pre-cell phone fun, obviously, but made me realize how many ppl have seen me naked, regardless 😂

I love how Omaha's Maha festival is still kind of small town. Last year the food lines were a mess & I had a crisis from my adrenal insufficiency & had to updose. I emailed my concerns today & asked if I could just bring a pb&j. They answered, Sure! Just talk to *** or *** at the entrance 🙂

Therapists & social workers! I am outraged. I know I am screaming into the abyss here but I just did a ceu training on ethical documentation in which the demonstrated standard held by insurance companies is so high that documenting a session would probably take longer than this session itself.

Since we are social workers and
bound to a code of ethics, including
Tenets of social justice, the ethics of
insurance companies needs to be
addressed in these trainings. For
profit insurance companies are
inherently amoral and unethical,
and working for them as an auditor
is very problematic. The lens
through which this class should be
taught iS our duty to ourselves as
clinicians and to our clients, which
should include fighting the
encroachment of audits and
clawbacks that are putting so many
of my colleagues in private practice

out of business.

Using Al for documentation, besides being environmentally problematic, also raises the bar to an untenable degree for those of us who believe that the only truly safe method of documentation is on paper in file folders. The insurance companies continue tO raise the bar for paneled therapists to ludicrous degrees because they want to covertly attack and undermine our field from behind rather than reaching out to clients and simply asking, "Hey, iS therapy helping you with your PTSD?" These excessive and pedantic
standards are designed to unpanel therapists and limit access to therapists for clients, so that insurance companies make higher profits.Yes, reasonable documentation is
a necessary and ethical part of therapy, but to act as though the increasing demands, continuous audits, and interference into clients' healthcare by insurance companies is reasonable and inevitable goes against the social justice focus of our philosophy as social workers.
As a therapist dedicated to taking Medicaid, I am alarmed at how many therapists are dropping out the field or going to out of pocket pay only due to ethical and financial concerns. Compliance without resistance against insurance companies is unethical and antithetical to social work values.Provide any additional commentsyou may haveregarding special interest areas/desiredtraining content:

Fighting Insurance Companies

Please send love to our eagle friend, Jackie, in Big Bear. Word is that she was found after being attacked for several days by a subadult (there is some speculation that she may have been in a weakened state from lead poisoning from a lure.) She is now being cared for by a wildlife rehab group...

Yes I got the Esprit sweatshirt! Esprit celebrated fun & self-expression- it captured the Pippi Longstocking/Punky Brewster vibe in a world that sexualizes girls & young women. I refuse to apologize for celebrating the expression of joy & authenticity ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
