“Every time these agencies did a bus redesign and didn’t also add bus lanes or signal priority, the bus speeds fell,”
Metro tried to make bus service better. Somehow, ridership and speeds are both down
A year after Better Bus, reviews are mixed.

If a resident faces a 30-minute wait or an hour-long, winding journey to get across town, they will choose a car every time. We cannot approve high-density growth without matching it with useful frequent grid infrastructure. #Guelph #GuelphTransit
Building facilities and buying electric buses is only half the battle. Council must be willing to fund the drivers, mechanics, and operational hours so that routes are more frequent and the standard across the city, not the exception. #Guelph #GuelphTransit
Transit isn't just for 9-to-5 commuters heading downtown. If a worker cannot reliably get home from a late shift or a weekend shift, the system has failed them, and the development forces car-dependence. #Guelph #GuelphTransit

City Hall is preventing you from saving money on not having to maintain a parking lot. Money that could help your business grow.
Investing in transit means our local economy wins! So why is #Guelph City Hall taking away millions of dollars of potential revenue & savings for local businesses with infrequent transit? Help us tell City Hall to invest in local transit and grow our economy. www.taaguelph.com/join #GuelphTransit
"An advanced city is not one where the poor can get around by car, but one where even the rich use public transportation." -Enrique Peñalosa
While others at #Guelph City Hall treat transit as a burden, we see it as a lost opportunity. Promote as an alternative to drinking & driving. We hope those people are not actively trying to encourage that with more parking. Take transit to Downtown Guelph this ☀️ Find your ride guelph.ca/transit
Has there been an assessment to determine the need vs the want? The Wilson St Parkade is still mostly empty throughout the day & weekends. Transit, once again, is being treated as a burden. Proper marketing/promo i.e. being able to drink DT & go home via bus decreases D&D. Great pitch to consider
Guthrie says he talks to business and their number one complaint is the need for more parking. Council can make transit an option, but parking is what their customers want.
Co-operators and UofG are the only two listed on the Guelph Transit website. DGBA can and should join this program.
Caton asks if the DGBA has any employee sponsored bus passes like business in the HCBP? Klassen says she doesn't believe so. (The Co-Operators used to have such a program.)
Frequency is Freedom and generates ridership, fuller bused, & higher revenue. Coverage costs taxpayers money to keep buses running mostly empty and inefficient. Help us advocate for a frequent transit network in #Guelph where buses come every 15 minutes or better on major routes! taaguelph.com/join
