10/ Hannah Walker - Mass protest is not guaranteed, but is important for systemic change. @chenoweth.bsky.social work tells us that when 3.5% of a population is engaged in sustained protest, change is more likely. Visible organizing is important. Creative protest is important.

9/ Roberto Carlos- Studies immigration courts. Immigration courts face institutional and political pressure to act assertively and aggressively against immigrants, which is having a chilling effect on immigrant households and communities that operate under conditions of fear and duress.

8/ Tabitha Bonilla tells us thousands of students have had visas revoked for protest activities on campuses, which started under a Democratic president. When universities restricted student protest, they limited learning about civic participation; blocked a key feature of electoral accountability.

7/ Allison Yash - People are understandably exhausted, especially academics managing multiple crises: budgets, enrollment, free speech attacks, science under siege, censoring and controlling educational content. There is too much quiet compliance and complacence. We’re all Columbia now.

6/ Vince Hutchings tells us that racial animus is not the reason for racial bias, interest in maintaining a racial hierarchy is. The forces fighting to save the union and the forces fighting for racial justice are not the same—they weren’t during reconstruction—if they were, we wouldn’t be here now.

5/ @kevintmorris.bsky.social reminds us of the importance of the Voting Rights Act and the threat it is under (Louisiana v. Callais). Federal government at all levels is stepping back from protecting voting rights in systemic ways, unseen since the end of Reconstruction in 1877.

4/ @nathankalmoe.bsky.social is writing about democratic reforms and Americans' attitudes about democracy's institutions. He reminds us that hope is essential and reforms are possible.

3/ @lilymasonphd.bsky.social tells the audience the GOP is 1/3 MAGA, 1/3 old school Republican, and 1/3 in between. Reminds us that the US has always had an illiberal faction in its politics, but it hasn't always been in control of a major political party.

2/ @smotus.bsky.social tells the audience about the modern Republican party, which he's been studying by surveying GOP local party chairs. He says the Trump coalition remains dominant in the GOP and will likely remain so, even after Trump leaves office and remains alive.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.
