Changes in remakes touted as “quality of life improvements” are often just gutting interesting and unconventional design choices which acts only to homogenise games, to then sell more copies to more people at the expense of artistic integrity.

If we want to truly accept games as art, we also have to accept that better graphics and more convenient gameplay doesn’t make a game inherently better. Sometimes “ugly” visuals or frustrating gameplay is a core aspect of what makes it.
