Very happy to share our latest work out in PNAS this week, led by Amy Xiang. We show that capillary thin-strand pericytes express TMEM16A calcium-activated chloride channels, which set the operating point for capillary control of cerebral blood flow in vivo. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
New publication Alert: Delighted to share our latest work. We describe a unique relationship between electrical and Calcium signaling; 'Electro-Calcium Coupling' in brain capillary endothelial cells. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
I am delighted to share the work of my amazing student Dominic Isaacs! Out today in PNAS (www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...), Dom beautifully used optogenetics to show that thin-strand pericytes in the brain can send long-range electrical signals to control arteriole diameter and brain blood flow.
Our paper is out just in time for #EM_Monday! It is about a specialized neuron-specific ER, called the spine apparatus, which is found close to synapses and has a very peculiar shape. If you think neurons are special, the spine apparatus is their🦄 horn! But how does it form?! doi.org/10.1016/j.cu...
Oh my. This is just gorgeous from Misha Kudryashev's lab (I don't think he's here yet?). Love to see it. V ATPase resolved directly in synaptic vesicles 🤤 Lots of other neat observations in there also. Congrats to all involved! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

L-Type Ca2+ channels and TRPC3 channels shape brain pericyte Ca2+ signaling and hemodynamics throughout the arteriole to capillary network in vivo
Pericytes play a crucial role in regulating cerebral blood flow (CBF) through processes like vasomotion and neurovascular coupling (NVC). Recent work has identified different pericyte types at distinc...
