I come from the generation of Black people who were told that we need to "act right" so we don't lose the opportunity to change things from the inside, only to learn that we will compromise ourselves into protecting the very things that are destroying us.

The day my dad passed, I didn't believe it was happening. My mom had called me home the previous day because he'd lost consciousness and they believed it was the end. So I flew home and sat with him. He regained consciousness and seemed fine. He ate, had some ice cream, and basically seemed fine.
My mom didn't know who I was today.
While I'm on the train, I'm gonna do a quick lil #CaribbeanHeritageMonth thread on (new) music - maybe next week I'll cover some historical stuff, but lemme put y'all on to a few things, starting with this new Buju clip 🔥
My cup overfloweth. Want a sip? *I'm kidding. Don't answer that.*
I'm attending a digital humanities event in Montreal. There was a keynote on AI and something about the talk made me wonder if it had been written by Claude. I said as much in the Q&A. As I posed the question, the speaker shifted, looking slightly uncomfortable. What he said next shocked the room +

I am the abundance this culture tries to convince you shouldn't exist, much less desire.
Did I mention I've got a fantasy series wrapping up? Are you aware there's a pre-launch page for the final book at Kickstarter? Do you like witchy stuff? And tall tales? Yeah you do. Is it true nether politicians shrivel from this series like vamphyr at a daylight rave? Can't confirm. Won't deny.

I wanted to be one of those people who went silent and then popped out with a new book or some shit but I'm struggling with wanting to exist, much less create something.
Velma with an afro is everything. My Velma cosplay had an afro, too. It was too cute!

I was super mad the day I posted this in 2023. The thing they leave out of the deathly fat medical conversation is how doctors will refuse to treat you because you're fat then blame you being fat for all the health issues you experience due to LACK OF TREATMENT. Absolute fuckery.
I liked the makeup for this shoot, even though I've done a similar look in the past. I feel like I'm struggling with my creativity these days and I don't like it.
You ever want to talk about something just to get it out, but you don't want any feedback on it? Like, you need to be heard, not comforted or even validated? *Sigh* Being human is weird.
Media needs to stop with "critics say" and just quote the actual language of the bill. HB 249 creates a new category of "seminudity" which can be used to arrest women who aren't nude, but are wearing clothing — leggings, t-shirts without bras — that religious groups feel is too provocative.
Critics of new bill say Ohio women would be banned from sports bras, bikinis in public

The longer you live, the more you change. Some change is intentional. Other changes, not so much. And everyone has a ripple effect on your life, some miniscule, some huge. My changes had me spiraling into a period of self-hatred that I'm only now finding the strength to push back on.

Again, look at the behavior. It's taunts, deflections and pure ignorance to avoid addressing the point I make about the effects of the white political vote in the US. I did not say anything to this person or about their alleged race. This is pure anti-Blackness based on an idea they made up.
“People who shut their eyes to reality simply invite their own destruction, and anyone who insists on remaining in a state of innocence long after that innocence is dead turns himself into a monster.”-- James Baldwin
One of the hardest things I've had to reckon with over the past decade is how everything we were conditioned to believe about this country and this government has been bullshit.
The fuckery never ends with these bitches. So many of them gotta go.
