Blending in blender. He/They

A voice of generation. It's hard to think how often I have listened to the man speak and entertain since I was a child. These are just a few of many. Have a smashing time wherever you end up next. RIP Tim Curry.

I wanna sub-post and push back against this so much. No law or policy is truly enforceable. The MIT license isn't truly enforceable. What you do is you codify your morals and then enforce that to the best of your ability. Mistakes will happen, you'll fix, improve, apologize. This is just silly.

Ultimately a moral policy is unenforceable, and wouldn't make anything better.

Some people say full bans are unenforceable because you have to remove anything retroactively found to be AI. No, you only have to remove known legal liabilities and have consequences for violators. Purity of origin is unattainable within Godot or dependencies. It's about culture and messaging.

Far too common in this industry is the stance of "balance". There is much acknowledgment of AI's wrongs, but somehow it's always anti-AI folks being asked to compromise. I've come to expect it in general, but it's disappointing seeing it from Godot.

Sorry to make it a quote, but I want to get out of Zi's thread. I'm hoping for that, but it's also why we collectively are applying pressure now. If the Godot new AI policy is more hard-line against AI then most of my complaints will disappear. They need to know that we are scared.

that barrier you speak of is IMO the ai policy the Godot foundation is about to release, as well as your trust in the foundation, its maintainers, and core contributors in upholding that policy.

To be clear, I don't think "AI-free code" is achievable, because nobody has to disclose, and Godot can't control it's libraries. That's the one pragmatism-rooted stance I actually agree on with the team. It's more about mitigation and setting an example and not perpetuating a harmful thing.

I don't agree. Slop to me brings to mind the liquid leftovers we feed to pigs and farm animals. Even if it is nutrient efficient and tastes fine, it is still regurgitated garbage. If the code is good and works perfectly I still don't want it because it is slop spliced together by a thievery bot.

In general, you can't. How to know if `print("Hello world")` was typed by a human or inserted by a coding agent? It's the same code and it works the same. To be clear, AI generated code isn't necessary slop. Slop implies low-quality and low-effort, but AI generated code can be high quality too.

I'm not going to abandon Godot. I quite literally am not in a position to even if I wanted to. This isn't like passing on a game to spend money on. But I am version-locked to 4.6.3 for now, and this is me voicing my concerns. 🙏
