The legendary USGS Bee Lab is being shut down. The 2026 budget proposal defunds the Ecosystem Mission Area, which supported the lab. If their science helped your work, there’s still time to make your voice heard. Read below. (1/4) 🧪 #pollinators #Pollinators #USGS #Entomology #Hymenoptera 🪲🪳

Where are people buying their aerial nets these days? Bioquip used to make soft fine mesh nets and I can only find ones that have the coarse mesh. Insects tend to stick to the coarse mesh. TIA!

Oh, hey, it’s Taxonomist Appreciation Day! To all y’alls who have been building and maintaining essential collections, reconstructing evolutionary histories, and giving us the tools to understand biodiversity, thank you! May your effort be rewarded with jobs, grant funding, and honor.

Summer undergraduate help needed! We are looking for undergrads to help with field research in insect ecology and pollinator conservation. Pay is $13-18/hr depending on experience and location is Manhattan, KS (Kansas State University). Check out the post below.

Looking for help on how to efficiently process LOTS of insect field specimens. Currently, we pin insect w/hand written site/date label then ID insect w/hand written label then create new printed labels w/unique ID #. Seems inefficient! Does anyone have a better workflow that they can share? THX!

My friend and fellow conservation scientist Sheila has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and her partner is quitting his job to take care of her. If you can spare any funds to help their family, I and they would appreciate it. @savewildbees.bsky.social

Many people take "non-traditional" career paths in academia. My Leading Edge colleagues and I did! We wrote for PLOS Biology about how non-linear careers are increasingly common, but funding agencies and search committees penalize these paths. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

Supporting nonlinear careers to diversify science

Those who follow non-linear career trajectories often face disadvantages in academia. This Perspective looks at why individuals might choose non-linear careers and how these benefit diversity in scien...
