I love people watching and last weekend in Ropecon my table was next to an open café and I saw some cute moments with cosplayers taking a break, so I did some doodles of them just now while I still remember.

So many people with 10, 15, even 20+ years of experience in government service, scientific research, beat reporting, software engineering or other specialized fields are still struggling to find new jobs in Canada and the US. Some people have been applying to full-time jobs for over a year.

I keep thinking about how often the mass layoffs in media, government and big companies, especially women and people of color, will lead to poorer outcomes for years because the people who would point out potential problems or blind spots were deemed non-essential, a "bad fit", and/or too expensive.

I'm not the greatest headline writer, in part because at the end of writing something, I've usually given it enough of my time/brainspace that it's difficult to have to sum it all up in a catchy, pithy way. but it gets clearer each year that for so many people the hed/dek are the product (it sucks!)

I don’t know how to convince anyone of this, but the hundreds or thousands of words many publications run below the headline aren’t decorative. Often they contain nuance that doesn’t fit into ten words.

Wasting my great sense of humor trying to make myself laugh every time I get another automated job rejection. I'm up to 18 so far this week and it's only Tuesday.
