Curated by Stephanie Breen, Aileen Douglas and Ian Campbell Ross, the exhibition explores how Gulliver’s Travels has fascinated readers for 300 years, drawing on the rich collection of Swift’s masterpiece held in the Library of Trinity College Dublin.

Prime Minister Carney was also shown pages from the manuscript, the Book of Armagh with reference to his ancestral home Aghagower in Co. Mayo where St Patrick established a church (TCD MS 52 f.32 & f.13, see ‘Achad Fobuir’ 8 lines from the bottom in f.13).

We were delighted to host Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney and his wife Diana Fox Carney, joined by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin on his visit to the Old Library where he viewed the precious 9th century manuscript, Book of Kells.

An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin’s gift to Pope Leo XIV included Book of Kells facsimile reproductions from: Gospel of Matthew (22:39, folio 98r) “secundum autem simile est huic diliges proximum tuum sicut te ipsum” “And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”

We were delighted to see An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin and his wife, Mary O’Shea in his private visit with Pope Leo XIV yesterday, presenting facsimile reproductions of the Book of Kells as part of a presentation gift.

On this day in 1926, the census of Trinity College Dublin was certified, capturing campus life from 100 years ago. There were 185 people living across campus, from students and lecturers to support staff and their families. Among them were 26 “servants”, 17 of them women. @tcddublin.bsky.social
