@tillythecoder.com and I are starting a podcast, Make Ship Happen. Our first episode will stream on YouTube tomorrow at 4 PM UK / 11 AM Chicago. But first, we need your help deciding on a logo! Comment with 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣ to vote for your favorite:

Four images with the same text: Make Ship Happen, the podcast with Tilly and Andy. The first has a boat bracketed by < >. The second is a circular political button vibe with a star at the top, and a boat in water with a mouse icon to the right. The third is a fun vibe, with rounded text, a paper rocket-ship is in the top left with bracket trails. The fourth is more clean with the text to the left and a MSH wordmark to the right

I’ve always been Diet Coke or bust kind of person, but recently this stinking monster has been making more of an appearance… tbd if it’s a good or bad thing.

Laravel tip: stop reaching for env() outside config files. Once you run config:cache, env() returns null and things break in ways that look random. Read from config(), let config files read from env. One habit, fewer 3am mysteries. #laravel #php

Yesterday I had the privilege of playing at the Chicago’s Symphony Center (where CSO plays). I’ve been in band almost continuously since 5th grade, but never thought I would be able to play at such a prestigious venue!

@joe.codes I switched back to Code from Storm and its amazing how far the Laravel extension has come in a year. Thank you for all the amazing work. My favorite new (to me) feature is the built in test runner.

Super greatful that @calebporzio.bsky.social invited me to the first Wire:Live to share tips and tricks I've learned from building Livewire! It was an awesome chill conference. Thank you to everyone who said they enjoyed my talk! Recordings will be available soon.

I’m thrilled to announce that I will be speaking at Wire⚡Live next month! As someone who has used Livewire since its initial release, I'm excited to share the tips and tricks I use to write production-ready Livewire apps. Come to Buffalo to help make the first Wire⚡Live great!

My headshot. I'm smiling, wearing big oval glasses, and I have blue, purple, and pink hair. I'm wearing a black and white button-down shirt that features a striped and floral print design. In the background, a brick building and a tree with turning leaves are visible. A grainy filter has been added on top.

At the bottom, a black banner features the Wire⚡Live logo on the left and the text "Buffalo, NY October 28-29" on the right. Above the banner is the text "Speaker: Andy Newhouse" in black text on a yellow ribbon.

Something I've noticed: strong developers can blend into code bases. Meaning, the code they contribute matches the style & opinions of the code base. They know how to lean into the strengths of each pattern, and aren't dogmatic about one over the other. A code chameleon 🦎

Tighten onsite + Laracon was such a fun whirlwind! I had a blast chatting with old and new friends, and once again didn’t get enough photos with people (though I have more than last year)

Myself and Mary Perry both smiling for the camera, I’m wearing a blue button down shirt with lemons, my hair is currently silver, blue, and pink and is spiked up in front. Mary is wearing a black tshirt with a gray zip up hoodie, has her hair up in a ponytail under a black PHPxNYC baseball hat.The Tighten team at a Game Show Battle Room, half of the team have sailor hats and the other half have rainbow cowboy hats.

On Monday a fire ravaged our farm, destroying most of our olive trees and other things. My husband managed to save our shed, our animals & home. I have set up a Go Fund Me to help raise money to start replanting. Any amount, is much appreciated. gofund.me/3dedee6a
