When you take an evidence-based approach to AI-assisted and agentic software development, a picture emerges. It doesn't serve the narrative the bubble's been built on. But for the tiny % who care what's probably real and what actually works... codemanship.wordpress.com/2026/08/12/a...

AI Software Development – What Does The Data Say?

I’m currently pulling together a bunch of sources – that are mostly recent – on the topic of LLMs and their use in software development. Some are peer-reviewed studies. Some are i…

🔥 New blog post: Dark mode toggles that expose three states (system, light, dark) seem like the best option. Until you think about user goals, that is. Before rushing to disagree, hear me out. lea.verou.me/blog/2026/da... PS: As a data point, @jakearchibald.com was converted after reading this 😅

Dark mode toggles: two states are enough • Lea Verou

Yes, the underlying model must have three states, but one is always irrelevant to the actual user goal. Users do not seek out solutions to problems they don’t currently have. A lot of the hate towards...

Today’s the day that the EHRC code of practice comes into effect, containing Labour’s Bathroom Ban. It is designed to scare service providers into enforcing a ban on trans people using toilets and changing rooms the Labour government knows it cannot enforce itself. #BogOff

Schwarz-Rot will das Informationsfreiheitsgesetz de facto abschaffen.

Human Rights is a radical concept precisely because universal fundamental rights for all is politically controversial. They protect the minority from the majority. If they’re politically popular they lose their purpose. Mary Ann Stephenson is undoubtedly part of the project seeking to destroy them.

The chair of the EHRC, our national human rights institution, centring arguments around polling and political popularity on a human rights issue seems… Not good www.politicshome.com/news/article...

The alternative would be removing entitlements to single-sex spaces altogether, she concludes, which would be hard. "If you look at where public opinion is, all the studies - and there's been multiple polling on this area - show a very high degree of support for single-sex services, and for those to be provided on the basis of biological sex. So, I think an attempt to change the law that would remove the right to single-sex services would be extremely unpopular."

see? here's the thing. A lot of people are like, the earth is fucked, it's beyond salvation, it's hit the tipping point, but time and time again we see that if we just fucking fixed the problem, it rebounds so incredibly fast. Imagine what could be done if people actually cared

They said it would take 193 years to clean London’s air. We did it in nine. 💨 London has now met legal limits for nitrogen dioxide air pollution.

In 2021 I did a 100km walk for Cancer Research and you all raised £20k. I will never ever forget that. I did it again in 2022, just for 'fun', and tomorrow I'm doing it again (although this time in my 40s). I'll post updates to this thread, so mute it if you don't care.
