The USSR did a bulk of the fighting against the Nazis, and also did the bulk of the work in eradicating Smallpox. I think just on those that makes it the most humanitarian state in history. Although admittedly there isn’t much competition.

The problem with this is republicans also spend the entire time destroying unions and pushing for terrible automation and erosion of worker protections that make these types of work possible and worth what's asked. You can't expect someone to work on powerlines in a right to work state for $12/hour
