The extra compute I'm referring to is the compute required from training to inference. It's the supposed reason for the need of these water boiling data centers that will be paid for by the poorest for the benefit of the richest.
turbolib@megalib.bsky.social · 2w agoCertainly I assume the existence of computers when I talk about coding efficiency. But the point is that my own environmental footprint excluding AI is much larger than my footprint attributable to AI. This is true of almost everyone in the US

My fall into the precariat class has been an education in class attitudes. Americans have absolute contempt for the poor. Almost to the person, I swear, they're convinced it cannot happen to them. I'm also convinced this attitude is a large part of what inspires people to protect and tolerate Trump.
