Dear #NIH, on behalf of the hard-working people who were trying to take a rare vacation, to care for a loved one, attend a funeral, or a birth, or a milestone, and got yet another panicked “please recertify your #Biosketch” request, may your thoughtlessness and cruelty come back to you in THIS life.
🧪 The average US science PhD takes 5.6 years, but a new DHS rule caps F-1 visas at 4 years. Over 95% of physics doctoral students take longer than that, so requiring strict extension vetting won't just slow down degrees. It risks driving talent away from the national research workforce.

AOC when asked about Hegseth's comment about getting rid of 'unqualified' women in the military: “He’s an unqualified man in his role, so of course he’s threatened by women who are twice as good as he is.“
Your reaction to the new White House vision for science probably depends on what you think about the past 18 months under Trump. Here's why www.science.org/content/arti...

UPDATE: We learned that the folks behind Project 2025, are encouraging their base to write comments in favor of the rule. This suggests our efforts are working and they are shaken. IT ALSO MEANS WE NEED TO GO OUT WITH A BANG. MAKE YOUR COMMENT TODAY!!!
🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 11 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/R83IO
I’m gonna bet that Luigi Mangione tried to get an annual eye exam in this country.
Excited that this story is now published at @theaacr.bsky.social Cancer Research! #Squamous tumors have transcriptional heterogeneity that resembles normal lung cell states, including a lowly-dividing stress-resistant KRT13+ #hillock-like state driven by KLF4. aacrjournals.org/cancerres/ar...

The way it’s going, I swear I’m gonna be dead (from old age, don’t panic) & there will be hundreds of emails of people *pissed off* that I haven’t wrote them back. Everyone is annoyed they aren’t #1 in my book! But I have no free time. The list is longggggg. Prob b/c this job is too much!
Despite its record low funding, we have an exciting new drug target relevant to #SCLC and other tumors classified as neuroendocrine tumors but with tuft-like identity. The most exciting target of my career! We just need a journal who wants to send it out to review. 🤷🏻♀️
TBH I had no idea we were underfunding #sclc and #nsclc research by so much, but also this may all soon be out of date as it appears the NIH may not fund much of anything anymore😭 jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
The only other Oliver worth listening to…🤣
Here’s last night’s story about a shortcut to the Supreme Court known as the “shadow docket,” how it’s being abused by the Trump administration, and which Supreme Court justice looks like a preschool teacher who still hits. https://youtu.be/qKeq4CEZtm8

Is the U.S. slipping into 'Competitive Authoritarianism?'
What form of government do we have in America now? Some scholars say it is no longer liberal democracy, but "competitive authoritarianism." NPR's Frank Langfitt explains the term and its origin.

In deftly redefining the self-interest of Black people as “politics”, Republicans have essentially declared racism is over and never actually existed in the first place. Which really just goes to show, racists are still here, and they can be predictable and clever too.
