I did say the second half of my revisions to the top 5 homebrew lists was coming, didn't I? It's here. Enjoy.

Top 5 Homebrew, Revisited – Part 2

Conntinuing on from Part 1, let's finish this series of revisions! Paladin There have been a number of truly excellent Paladins released since this list came out, but I think there are two that stand out for me enough to crack the top 5, and they touch on two of my favorite themes, so it's not really all that surprising.

Arcana Unleashed is finally out, and since we covered the UA for the subclasses that went into the book, tradition dictates I give a review of the finalized version (spoiler alert: all DMs need to ban this version of the Necromancer Wizard)

Arcana Unleashed – Magic Subclasses Finalized

With the new book Arcane Unleashed out, the magic subclasses we talked about last year (first time, second time) are now fully out in the wild, so as we did with the Artificer and the Horror items that ended up in the Ravenloft book, lets talk about the final versions Arcana Domain Cleric Most the features are the same as the first playtest, which considering they didn't feel the need to publish an updated version in the second playtest would make a lot of sense.

Me: "Maybe I will go give WoW Forever a try and see what this version is like" *sees a ton of social media posts of people whining they can't have edgelord asshole names and/or Asmongold's dorks complaining about an addon that mass ignores them* Also me: "...Or maybe not."

It's been about a year since the start of my top 5 homebrew subclass series which took up a good chunk of posts for the latter half of 2025. Let's check in and see if anything has changed. For the first 7 classes, anyway. The rest will come later!

Top 5 Homebrew, Revisited – Part 1

Starting in May of last year, I did a series where I ranked my top 5 favorite homebrew subclasses for each class. We're going to take another look at those lists and see if anything's changed. We might see new entrants, we might have a change in opinion on where things rank, or nothing might have changed at all!

I do love me some Dragonborn, so much so that I dedicated this month to making some Dragonborn characters. Here's a small sample.

D&D Character Concepts – August 2026

For the month of August, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite D&D Species - Dragonborn. Earlier in the year I made a chart of every Dragonborn character I had, separated out by scale color, while also counting how many times I had used each class with one. I also jotted down some ideas for the Gem Dragonborn introduced in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons based on the common personality traits of their associated Gem Dragons.

With @kibblestasty.com's Warlord being announced as coming to D&D Beyond at the end of the year, I wrote a character build with it! Give it a look, why don't ya!

Building a Couple of Warlords

I wasn't going to do another character build post so soon, but then the new Partnered Content release schedule for D&D Beyond was posted, and look who's on it for a December release? That's right, KibblesTasty's Warlord class is coming to D&D Beyond. To celebrate, we're going to do a Warlord build post. However, the Warlord doesn't really have any decision points in its leveling structure outside of the same points all characters have, like choosing feats.

Another character build post for the week, this time featuring @Kibblestasty.com's Warden! This class is pretty cool, come see what I did with it

Building Tempest

Tempest (first mentioned here) was not the first character I created out of KibblesTasty’s Warden class, but he does remain my favorite on the strength of his subclass and his backstory, elements of which draw on themes from my own campaign setting. He uses the Dreadwing subclass, and gained his power when he helped slay a blue dragon that been ravaging their home, trying to drive them out.

July was dedicated to creating characters from Machines of Bone and Blood's character options. This post goes over a small sampling of them!

D&D Character Concepts – July 2026

For July's challenge, I decided to mirror what we did in March, but for subclasses to be published in Machines of Bone and Blood. Let's get into a small sampling of the many new characters created. Bix The Agitator is a Rogue subclass that's been around for quite a while, but I had never quite gotten something laid out for it.

I want nothing more than to share this far and wide and try to wake people out of this mass delusion. But like the article says, I fear this is going to get me targeted for layoffs or worse, get me overlooked at being hired again. www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...

No reason for these updates whatsooever. Nope. None.

Updating a Couple of Builds for No Reason at all

As the title says, I need to make some updates for a couple of character builds I've done around here. Why do I need to do this? Absolutely no reason whatsoever. Nope. Nothing prompting this. So first, we need to do the next two levels for our Unyielding Sun version of Thom. Second, we'll need to make a few alterations to our build for the…

Recent events on Plus 5 to Hit have me thinking: what if we get to play our old campaign characters again, even if only for a bit? I'll need something different for Thom. Here's a possibility!

Building Thom of the Unyielding Sun

If you've been keeping up with Plus 5 to Hit's newest campaign, you'd know that characters from previous campaigns are making appearances. My boy Seth has been mentioned, Ben's monk made an appearance in the prologue, and in the most recent episode, Shield has been reawakened. Sort of. Rho has made it clear on more than one occasion that he does not view these characters as being the same ones that we previously played, but it has had me envisioning the possibility down the line of doing an interlude where we play our old characters, or at least versions of them, once again.

A couple of weeks ago I made a predictions post about what content I said was gonna be in @somanyrobots.com's new book. Well the Kickstarter's been updated with the content list, so give this post a read if you wanna know how I did.

Machines of Blood and Bone: Predictions results

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a speculation post for what subclass content I expected would be included in somanyrobots' second book, Machines of Blood and Bone. On Thursday of last week, robots posted the first major update to the Kickstarter page, which includes among other things the full list of subclasses planned for inclusion. In this post we're gonna see how well I did…

The Kickstarter for @somanyrobots.com's second book is set to end later this week, and while we know a fair bit of what will be included, I thought it might be fun to speculate what else of his existing work we might see. Give it a read, then check out the Kickstarter!

Machines of Bone and Blood Speculation

Since the Kickstarter ends in 4 days, I thought it might be a fun discussion to talk about what we think from somanyrobots’ existing work is going into Machines of Bone and Blood. Here’s what we KNOW is going to be there, either because it’s mentioned in the Kickstarter (either the page itself or in the sample materials) or because the subclass doc specifically mentions the setting.

We've got another character build, this time using @somanyrobots.com's Necromancer! This class is far and away the best implementation of the various forms a necromancer archetype can take, so give it a look and enjoy what will probably be the first of a few builds with it!

Building Xardorim

Xardorim was first conceived as a Baldur's Gate 3 character, a Blue Dragonborn Wizard specializing in the School of Necromancy so I could enjoy running round with a big batch of undead minions. However, while the Necromancy Wizard might be fun in a game like BG3, at the table it's an absolute mess that can add entirely too many minions to a combat, bogging down combat with a single player's turn dominating the time spent and trivializing encounters.
