I reread Jesse Hamm's almost book-length essay, HAMM ON TOTH, every few years. Genuinely think it's one of the best pieces of writing on the visual aspects of comics. An appreciation of Alex Toth, but also an examination of process of learning, analysis of design, and a love letter to the art form.

sometimes I get weird comments/backhanded compliments about it (not this one!) but I've been doing it pretty consistently for the past couple years - and it is a huge relief because it's the only steady work I get now. most outlets are not champing at the bit to commission the kind of writing I do

here's another throwback from 2016 a private poster commission inspired by Moby Dick honestly still really love this one, both the concept and execution i worked on pre-inked scratchboard for this one (so fully black) instead of the usual white claybord that i ink myself 30x40cm
