First time hearing a record from the Charlie Parker label, which was ran by his widow Doris in the early 1960s. This LP was recorded by someone sneaking a tape recorder into the Savoy Ballroom in 1950 and sounds atrocious/incredible, depending on how much of a jazz sicko you are. #jazzsky #vinylsky

Lester Young - Pres is Blue, PLP-405, a 1961 release on Charlie Parker Records. Recorded from the Savoy Ballroom in 1950. Did I "need" this? No. Is it a "practical" investment? No. Am I "behind on my mortgage?" That's none of your business. But all I know is that I have one more Impulse spine for the shelves and a little extra Television dust in the house, and it's absolutely worth it.

Reached out to the family member of a jazz journalist over the weekend about writing something for the site and the response was more than I could have ever expected. Will keep the wraps on it for now, but it feels good keeping people's memories alive.

the passing of Sonny Rollins highlighted for me that the default Wordpress search sucks. I've since improved it, so if you search for Sonny Rollins (or a label, author, or specific album) you'll get groups of album covers instead of ugly text. Please try it out and try and break it for me. #jazzsky

search results for Herbie Hancock on my site now show what albums he appears on as a leader, which albums he played on, and which album pages he's mentioned on (either in reviews, or in the liner notes)

Pickups from Stash Records in Longview, WA today. Only LP I'm familiar with is Soular Energy. Ray Brown is great, but I remember Gene Harris stealing the show. Of particular note is that the Coltrane Japan set is 6 songs spread across four discs including a 57 minute (!) My Favorite Things. #jazzsky

Emmett Kelly in Willie the Clown - Kelly was born about 20 minutes from where I grew up; this book basically jumped off a shelf at me. Great color. A little bit of nerdery for the middle of the night. I've absolutely gone down the database rabbit hole lately. Spending a lot more time cataloging reviews than building new Jazz Tome pages. There are so many publications to catalog that it's overwhelming, but it'll pay off in the end. #jazzsky
