i love big dumb ttrpg books but this is maybe all the game rules i need for the rest of eternity. thanks @bastionland.bsky.social and @johnharper.bsky.social

introversion is no excuse for not maintaining a busy social life. my friend Shane is really good at running and is both able to and enjoys running really long distances a lot more than I do. he’s clearly a genetic freak. that doesn‘t mean it’s any less good for me to go running than Shane.
it blows my mind the number of fun little TTRPG things that people try to assemble into marketable products for an audience of hundreds at best. i don't begrude anyone who wants to sell their art. i've purchased and enjoyed plenty of it. but i do honestly ask... why?
an AI is going to kill the human race with this but it’ll be because it decided “generate a lethal and highly contagious virus“ was a reasonable step in answering the prompt “get me a burrito”, not in some master plan to replace the human race and pave the planet with solar panels
*They used genome *language models* to generate the viruses?! Like with William Burroughs, "language is a virus from outer space"? *Obviously "They" are gonna cull the human population with this, but death by AI-virus would be a cool William Burroughs way to die www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
I’ve been wandering through the medieval churches of Europe for the past month. A thought arises: the difference between 80s 40k art and modern 40k is that the 80s artists were referencing the actual gothic; modern 40k references itself.
me, glasslands-pilled: depends which federal government and whether Ma Bear has my back
I genuinely hate the push to make smoking a thing again. I have watched so many drawn out, ugly, painful deaths from smoking. It makes everything disgusting. It enslaves us to the worst kinds of corporations. There’s ZERO positive here.
there is very simply nothing like this game. the finished product may weigh fourteen pounds but it is impossible to measure the weight it has placed on the minds of me and my mortal friends. beware. wizard madness awaits.
SEVEN-PART PACT, my fantastical ornate TTRPG about powerful wizards, asymmetrical board games, and the pressures of masculinity is now launching on kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjg...
what an absolute legend
Actor Sam Neill had that idea when he played an Australian astronaut in the film "Event Horizon" (1997) set in 2047. He asked for that design, saying he thought by 2047 Australia would celebrate its Indigenous history. #InvasionDay
it's crazy to have been working on this game for 4 years and to finally have mockups of it
if you are Australian and you are reading this before midnight on 30 June you should probably make another charitable donation today the government will literally give you free money in exchange for donating a larger amount of money to charity, why would you not to do that?
two visions of the future: humanity wiped out by autonomous drone swarms, or this, the ultimate Quebec future not sure which one is worse tbh

there’s three paths: ASI never happens and we muddle along, we build a pro-human future that is friendly to all of us, or we lose. there’s no special pleading based on how many zeros you accumulate in your bank account in the lead-up to the singularity. no special future which is pro-wealthy.
many seem to be reading this essay as a statement that AI *will* take all our jobs and kill everyone, rather than a *response* to the idea that *if* AI does develop the ability to take all our jobs and kill everyone, owning some shares in OpenAI will mean that you get to pick who gets killed.

New post: superintelligent AI won't just lead to a "permanent underclass" but to the disempowerment of all humans. borretti.me/article/no-o...
I am not going to endorse/condemn the particulars of this specific proposal because I don't know what they are, but using the power of the state to slap the phones out of people's hands is Good, Actually as a general principle bsky.app/profile/omar...
Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
glad to see someone pop the “permanent underclass” bubble so clearly our future might include super-powerful ASI who can crush all of humanity like a bug, or it might not, but if so they’re not going to choose which humans they crush on the basis of capital holdings borretti.me/article/no-o...
No-One Escapes the Permanent Underclass
Capital won't save you from disempowerment.

this is clearly a chicken burger. bugger off with this seppo “sandwich” nonsense!
Quiet Year, Monsterhearts, Dream Askew, and Ribbon Drive are right up there as some of the best games ever written.
The process of moving into a new place this month and rebuilding my life as a person living solo for the first time in over a decade has been expensive and hard. If you've been thinking about picking up any of my games, this would be a great time to go for it. store.buriedwithoutceremony.com
great piece by Os
I wrote a piece for @news.abc.net.au about the false dichotomy of the multicultural vs monocultural debate & how it misses the deeper concerns that we are an increasingly atomised, disconnected country www.abc.net.au/religion/cur... #auspol
I have met a number of people who worked with Keir Starmer in his pre-political lawyer life and this aligns with how they described him - one of the kindest, smartest, and warmest people they’ve ever worked with. As it turns out, being personally kind/warm/brave/lovely is probably not sufficient!
every Labour MP's note is like "Keir Starmer is the kindest, warmest, bravest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life. I believe he must immediately provide a timetable for his resignation."
