LOL LMAO. It's also... not a new idea to anyone who has been poor. You buy a beat up junker car, it will die sooner than the new car you cannot afford. In 20 years you've paid more for cars than a richer person has.
okay now he's gone too far

the wikipedia page for wind is actually tremendously soothing
To be clear: If “TTRPGs” in your scholarship, teaching, & outreach start & end with D&D — or even GMed games — that’s a skill issue you need to reconsider. You’re gonna get left behind.

there are definitely downsides to the nuclear block but the reason I keep coming back to it as necessary and good is that it completely ruined the whole MAGA engagement model to the point that they prefer to mock us from the nazi bar rather than come here to troll us directly
Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit
“it is not my fault that my parents hurt me” and “nobody can clean up the mess they made but me” are two statements that can coexist. to live better, we have to live in a way that acknowledges the material truth of how things Are Right Now, not how we want them to be or how they should be
controlled by the movements of those feelings over anything else. we don’t have to let a single bad moment ruin our day; distress tolerance can be learned and it does not mean we are “putting up with” or “giving in” or whatever else. this is all just to say, let’s all learn to think dialectically.
I really enjoyed this episode for a few reasons. Most of all, I love how Barclay and Bee (1) read / discuss specific endnotes and (2) puzzle out the plot together. Playing solo games. Reading. These are social activities. It's what I dreamed of: multiple playthroughs, discussing with friends. ❤️
In July, we read & played recent ENNIE-winner “SPINE” (or: "Siderius Plug's SPINE: Immortality in Ninety-Nine Endnotes"), a dark solo TTRPG about losing yourself in a book by Asa Donald (@backwardsttrpg.bsky.social). You can listen to the episode here:
here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?
Okay, so, coming off this: What CAN the average indie do, relative to each of these theories? 1/?
A thread on "Theories about why TTRPGs are so cheap", with notes, including Oversupply (x2), Satiation, Non-Distinction, Production Purchases, Exemplar Pricing, and Confidence Pricing. Notes at end. 1/?
Can confirm, texting a bunch of your friends to come hang out in a quiet, maybe haunted hotel lobby for a couple hours after the hall closes is the way. @bridanann.bsky.social and I did that all weekend lol

Seven Part Pact is such an insane TTRPG. i love it. i cannot get enough of this monster.
imagine if the only way you would have gotten Schulz's Peanuts was if his wife worked in tech. that would've changed the themes & content of the strip for sure.
oof really feels like the only way to be a working modern parent-cartoonist is to have a breadwinner spouse. I'm obliterated.
I now suddenly want New Yorker/Stanley Chow-style portraits of people in games. This is, to be clear, a dumb thing to want.

I think we can go further. Girl Frame is a market indicator for the whole hobby. Trans women are an important demographic and our money is vital to an independent game's success.
Monsterhearts got that treatment for so many years. Very popular, held back only by my lack of business acumen, constantly described as a niche title or an undiscovered gem. I think there's a knee-jerk assumption that girl-coded or queer-coded titles only appeal to a small and bounded audience.
