I like that they aren't even saying that the person seriously injured was riding the bike, despite the part where the bike appears to have been disintegrated

Oh we have no details except a person on an e-bike was seriously injured, a possibly unrelated vehicle has damage, and the cops won’t talk to you. That definitely says “paint this like a single vehicle accident involving the bike”

The Nazi-curious ADL takes a brief break from defamation of pop stars and streamers who say "Free Palestine" to offer a begrudging, nameless comment about the Republican Party's daily odes to Nazism.

41 years ago today, the TV series The Golden Girls debuted on NBC. Estelle Getty was 62 years old, Betty White and Bea Arthur were 63, and Rue McClanahan was 51.

Bears were 9th team in Super Bowl era to score 50+ points in season opener. 6 of the previous 8 made the playoffs with the 1973 Falcons and 1986 Chargers missing out The 1967 #Raiders were the only one to reach the Super Bowl

He’s not the only person who thinks this, many many people believe the only path to success in US politics is through appealing to people with reactionary politics economically while leaving them unchallenged in their bigotries etc.

Also every boomer who scuttled out to the burbs and is spewing shit about the city being dangerous on facebook is projecting a city that 30 years ago they fled like wobbly kneed cowards and a generation of excellent people stayed and made it better.

They were understandably peeved about their clothes (I seem to recall that they had to be paid off for the loss plus a little extra for keeping it quiet) All in all, not too bad. Free drinks and cash money

and on the other side of the racial divide, a guy like bubba sparxx, from rural north carolina, was using hip-hop to do country music. the rigid divides of genre and identity that schmitz imagines are not real.

and i don't just mean this in a "black people are rural sense." when you listen to southern hip-hop — especially the stuff out of houston in the 90s and early 200s — you are listening to something recognizably *country*.

and really just to emphasize the point, *black people are country too*, which schmitz might understand if he was capable of thinking in anything other than broad stereotypes

and that if you spend any time in actual rural america, you are as likely to hear hip hop as any other genre, even among whites (ask yourself why the big country hits of the last ten years have incorporated elements of hip hop)

his basic ignorance of the subject is evident in that he equates country music with white rurality. not only does he appear unaware of the diversity of rural america, but he doesn’t seem to get that the principle audience for this stuff is suburban and exurban

For decades, they were searching for some way in which jack booted thugs were oppressing them. And now gone silent when they actually appear. Because they're mostly attacking brown people.

This attempt to construct a narrative of persecution around being a white guy in America is at base, an expression of profound jealousy and insecurity towards people who have to overcome challenges they will never face
