On learning instruments Leah: I want to play violin very, very badly! Me: Good news! The first time you do it, you will do it very, very badly.

#AutChat A3: I mean, it kinda looks like everyone doing AutChat today is floating around the same region of the orientation landscape. I think I recall a couple other regulars mentioning being in the same ballpark in the past, as well. But I haven't really read many books where it comes up.
Q3: Do you see people of your sexual/romantic/other orientations in autistic communities? In books/materials by and for autistic people? #AutChat
#AutChat A2: I'm gonna be honest, I've only started engaging with neurodivergent spaces OR spaces that talk much about attraction and orientation at all in the last few years. So yes, to a very limited and very recent degree. Not enough to have learned a ton yet.
Q2: Do you see people who are neurodivergent like you in discussions of attractions/orientations? In sex education? In conversations about significant relationships? #AutChat
#AutChat A1a: Kinda? This is a work in progress, but basically, understanding how being autistic relates to my emotional interoception issues, and how THAT feels relevant to my limited ability to experience attraction beyond aesthetic appreciation, does suggest that it's all connected somehow.
Q1: Did being autistic or similarly neurodivergent play a role in understanding your sexual, romantic, or other attractions/orientations? #AutChat
Hello, #AutChat! I'm Tej. This one might be a doozy, let's see how it plays out.
Q0: Introduce yourself! Say anything you like about yourself or your interest in #AutChat or in today's topic, attraction and orientation (sexual, romantic, and other). Quick reference for this week's #AutChat questions (please wait till they're posted to answer): autchat.com/attraction-a...
If you're a #Gamemaster who runs campaigns for pay or you've always been interested in doing so, but are wary. Can you sound off in the replies or my DMs? I want to get a group of folks together, any size, to talk about the economy around Professional GMing and what Pro GMs need, support-wise.
Remember, kids: you never have to worry about getting left behind if you don't actually want to go where they're going.
“GOTTA LEARN AI OR BE LEFT BEHIND.” Good. Fuck off! Leave me behind! Enjoy your artbarf rapture, your janky Temu future. I’ll be back here looking at real birds and writing weird, also real, books.
#AutChat A4: Within our own communities, kind of a glue, I guess? It's a medium that allows us to bond and relate. Not the only one, but I think an important one. In the broader world? More like a shield. It can suck out there; having some baseline love for oneself helps.
Q4: What role do you think autistic/neurodivergent pride plays in autistic/neurodivergent communities? In the broader world? #AutChat
#AutChat A3: I've only known I was autistic for two years now, and didn’t really consider pride at all for most of that. But as mentioned, my thoughts about what it means have changed in the little time I've sat with it. And I think I'm starting to actually connect with the idea.
Q3: Has your relationship to the idea of autistic/neurodivergent pride changed over time? #AutChat
#AutChat A2: No. I mean, I heard the words during Disability Pride month, but that was it. This week's chat is the first discussion about it I've witnessed.
Q2: Have you seen other people in autistic/neurodivergent communities discussing autistic/neurodivergent pride? Are there differences or similarities to how you think about it? #AutChat
#AutChat A1a: You know, I didn’t get this concept originally. I didn’t see anything to be proud of in finding out I was autistic. Not that I thought autism was bad, but the stuff that wasn't a hassle just kind of felt neutral. Worth consideration, but that's it. Not something worth shame or pride.
Q1: How do you define autistic (or neurodivergent) pride? What does it mean to you personally? #AutChat
Hello, #AutChat! I'm Tej, and currently down with a throat virus, depressive episode, and raging migraine, so let's see how well I keep up today.
Q0: Introduce yourself! Say anything you like about yourself or your interest in #AutChat or in today's topic, Autistic and neurodivergent pride. Quick reference for this week's #AutChat questions (please wait till they're posted to answer): autchat.com/autistic-and...
We carried paper maps, but their use varied. I, personally, am just good at memorizing routes and streets. Every time I moved to a new place, I'd spend a couple days just driving around aimlessly and then I knew every street within a half hour of my home. Sometimes we just guessed and got lost.
What was driving like before GPS? Did you just wing it? Did you only go places you knew how to get to? Were you just better at remembering steps to get somewhere?
"How did you get into TTRPGs?" I wanted to understand characters better for my writing, and a coworker invited me to a World of Darkness game played over IRC.
"how did you get into TTRPGs" I learned to read and write early and had a very bored nerdy teen mom who missed playing D&D with her friends 😅
It's okay if your book sucks a little bit. I say this entirely unironically. Perfect is the enemy of great; do it your way, let your story shine where it shines, and accept that the bits that aren't that good will be accepted because of the bits that are.
Occurs to me I might even add that there are very great books that kinda suck, if that makes sense? Moby-Dick is very hard to get through and some of the jags he takes are genuinely baffling. But then you find yourself thinking of scenes and dialog years later. I dunno.
Hey, @discord.com How about instead of trying to push us to get Nitro with meaningless virtual tokens like “free” profile customisation, you make us want to support you because you’re doing the right thing? Like stop pushing for that age verification bs, for example. As a start.
Its wild i started this journey 10 years ago The first platform I built came out as reaction to the death of google+. That version ultimately failed because i more focused on publishers and their products... expecting that a community would gather to those things with no real mechanism to engage..

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor
We'd have more fun modules to play if people tried out more systems. The answer to 5e isn't reskinning it or making something up from scratch. No need to reinvent the wheel with you own entire new system. Try lots of systems first and see what elements you like. Then maybe make a module.
D&D 4e was actually a solid game. It's fun to play and it was very good at being what it was intended to be. The problem with it was that it wasn’t what 3.5 fans wanted so they refused it, and WotC failed to appeal to its actual target demographic. It was a marketing failure, not a design failure.
Hit me with your nuanced ttrpg take.
There is truly nothing wrong with disagreeing on matters of taste. In fact, peacefully disagreeing on matters of taste is a vital skill in the TTRPG space, one lots of people haven't cultivated.

The unfortunate truth is that both the Supreme Court and the Senate are working perfectly fine. They were both designed to appease rural states and wealthy slave owners, and they're both doing so to this day. The system isn't broken, it's functioning as intended.
Who thinks the United States Supreme Court is compromised?
13yo Daughter: *peeling a nutty buddy into layers* Carol: You are your father's daughter. 13yo: What? Carol: That's how he eats them. Me: On the second half of the first one, I eat it in layers. Carol: He also eats twix from the top down. Me: On the second half of the first one. Carol: ...
If I'm thinking about it: "Excuse me." If I'm not: "Ope, lemme just..."
Casual question: When stepping by someone, do you prefer “pardon me,” “excuse me,” “beg your pardon,” or some other phrase? Why or why not? I was chatting with a friend about this and they felt one was polite and the other very rude. What do you think? What do you practice?

Hi, Spoonie! I'm Andi, and my fantasy work tends to lean into dark fantasy and fairy tale retelling. All primarily YA. Not a ton of light-hearted work going on. 😂 #SpoonieAuthChat

Hi! I’m Nash and I write primarily urban fantasy! I love high-drama, tension filled, magical worlds. I love infusing the mundane with the impossible but still retaining a dose of reality. I don’t have comps yet (since things are still in development) but I’m hoping I’ve given you an idea!
