I did it! I joined the @ndp.ca !! Many years too late but I finally did it. I chose #Canada as my home for a reason and I've always been an underdog. Good or bad the NDP has resonated with my reasons the most. So @avilewis.ca you have a brand new member who given the chance, wants to work with you!
Probably also because many of these floor crossers understand that “liberal values” are growing closer to conservative values under this government.
Rachel Gilmore@rachelgilmore.bsky.social · 4mo agoCarney is being asked whether *any* politician is welcome in the Liberal caucus and he’s basically saying yes. There’s no line in the sand — as long as they tell *him* they support Liberal values, they’re welcome to the Liberal Party to grow his majority power. Yikes.
The immediate status quo, centrist attacks on Avi Lewis are precisely why he is effective and needed. In face of growing right wing escalation, an unbashadely left opposition that is anti capitalist & internationalist is both principled *and* realistic.
There was a massive #Palestine flag being waved by the crowd behind #AviLewis on the stage as he won the #NDP leadership! It’s also the first and only political party forum in #Canada that has publiclly and on national television used the word genocide and called out Israel in #Gaza.

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social you didnt misunderstand. Carney's "Davos in action" is a selfish approach which says we will align ourself with bullies if it is in our self-interest. Even if it means supporting illegal wars. Thats not something we should support or be proud of as Canadians.
Rachel Gilmore@rachelgilmore.bsky.social · 5mo agoLots of academics I really respect are highlighting this misunderstanding, which I’ve apparently also fallen prey to. But there’s an important point here: What did Carney think laymen would take away from his speech when he spoke of taking a sign out of a window in the face of a bullying regime?
PM Carney has fed the Western world his “Davos Delusion” knowing it would be lapped up by them. This is the first of his “actions” under it. Let no one think we have a saviour in him.

Is abandoning international law what Carney meant by principled realism in his Davos speech?
“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.” Well. For those of us wondering if he’d walk the walk of the Davos speech, this is a pretty big answer. Nope.

Not to undermine these horrific killings, but if either of these innocent victims had been black, would it have mattered as much? If so, law enforcement under US Presidents would have seen a massive shift after the killing of George Floyd.
