Also, justifying gen-AI use as it "increases the speed of scientific output" might not be the flex you think it is. I already lack the time to read all the relevant literature (find peer reviewers) I should as an author (editor). Clearly, so do you, in my experience as both reviewer/Editor.

Few statisticians know that Frank Yates, pioneer of experimental design, is responsible for the annoying practice of indicating 3 tiers of statistical significance by stars (*p ≤ 0.05, **p ≤0.01, ***p ≤ 0.001). He soon regretted it and “vehemently opposed its unthinking use”. And here we are.

This is the wrong way of looking at it. Number of bids not necessarily going up due to AI but due to the tough financial crisis in higher education putting even more pressure on academics to get funding. Also if you want to get less AI in an application cut the nonsense & waffly tick boxing sections

Geoff McFadden@fad1.bsky.social · 2mo agoToday marks 30 years since we identified the apicoplast, a relict plastid in human and animal parasites (PMID 8632819). Apicoplasts are the target of the widely used antimalarial prophylactic doxycycline, which has saved many thousands of malaria infections.

The entire reason AI is being deployed in schools is to funnel money out of schools and into tech companies. Whatever reasons you've convinced yourself that AI edtech is necessary, regardless of how "useful" you think it is, it's sole purpose is to pad the pockets of the wealthy.
