Four litters of endangered red wolf pups born in eastern North Carolina this year are boosting hopes for the recovery of the species, which has only about 22 adults remaining in the wild.

Endangered, they are now protected from trophy hunters and poachers and making a slow comeback after population fell from over 100, 000 to 4,200. Lifespan 10-15 years
