I create monsters. Then I fly them. Sometimes they survive. You can watch all that shenanigans on https://youtube.com/shadowzone I'm also available here: @ShadowZone@mastodon.social

Went outside tonight to enjoy clear and dark skies with the Milky Way visible. At any given point there were at least two satellites as bright as bright stars also tracking through the sky. It makes me sad and angry that we had to give up a magical dark sky without having a chance to give input.

There's this saying: never meet your heroes. Guess whoever said that never met HarvesteR. It was the utmost pleasure chatting with him as well as fellow KSA developers gravhoek and Linx (not in the picture, he was called away).

Driving for 10 hours has one benefit: you can really get to know a new album. Or in my case two: Mastodon's "Marrow Deep" and The Warning's "Everything's Falling". Both are fantastic in their own way!

If you've followed the Euro space business for a while, all of these names will be familiar. They've been around for years, still waiting for a successful orbit on each of them. But space is hard. Best of luck to them!

A new chapter for European launchers 🚀 We have signed the first European Launcher Challenge contracts, helping emerging launch providers scale up their capabilities and expand Europe’s access to space.

First time photographing an eclipse. Wish totality was longer than 1 min 50 seconds. So much to see, to experience, to learn. Sun was behind a bit of a haze, but I still managed to catch a few shots.

Saw "The Odyssey" today. Yeah, it was good, but it has its flaws. Some choices by Nolan I do not agree with at all. And the cinema's sound system was cranked so loud, all of our group had to plug our ears at times. Very unpleasant.

We already lost 20% of our harvest in Austria this year! If you think the current heat waves are bad, wait for next year. Or rather, don't wait! Whatever country you're in: call your politicians, tell them if they don't enact significant climate policies, people will die & they will be voted out.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Why is "modern" UI so idiotic? Everything is big and "friendly" but if something doesn't work, you have NO chance to dig deeper, to get into more detailed information. Hey developers, stop treating everyone like idiots!

Are you a UK citizen? Write your MP to prevent this! Closing this would not only harm British science but astronomy world wide.

Short-sighted, stupid cuts to the UKRI budget include shutting down Jodrell Bank, the icon of British astronomy. (Many other cuts too, including 20% to our brand new @vrubinobs.bsky.social). Interesting politically to shut down a major facility in...um..Manchester 🔭 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
