Here's a little secret: Whether it's the flash mob or the "Can I play/sing with you?" I cannot last 30 seconds in these videos without tears streaming down my cheeks. I don't want to explore why. I just relish a few moments of my cold, dead heart opening up.

Putting aside the myriad issues of producing gen AI, that it's shown how many folks are incurious, lazy and utterly willing to sacrifice their ingenuity and creativity because they no longer seek to think for themselves is depressing. Truly, want more for yourself. Want better.

So many sneering elitist journalists with snarky posts over the past months that the Reflecting Pool story was trivial. It was so trivial that the DC US Attny presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict an innocent man to please the President while they both lied about it.

I watched the new Criterion release of HAIRSPRAY (the real one) last night. Always a treat. I paid attention to Josh Charles this time. It's amazing how much screen time he has with almost no dialogue. So cute and goofy. While no longer goofy he looks exactly the same nearly 40 years later. 1/2

Two screenshots of John Charles. On the left is HAIRSPRAY (1988) and on the right is THE HANDMAID'S TALE (2025).

Eight months in the North Country and I've never seen an Amish woman or girl that didn't look miserable and exhausted. Breeding machines and farm slaves. I see them sitting beside their men in the buggies daily and they are always barefoot. To keep them from being able to run away?

Vetting new followers and I see "Zone 4b" in one of the bios. I've never felt more seen. Eight months in the North Country and I've seen the temperature span over 110ºF and drop 50ºF in a day. Ten feet of snow, -20ºF nights, and frost in mid-May doesn't mean no 95ºF humid AF days in July/Aug.

You ever just feel like you hate almost everyone? The USA is a dystopian torture chamber for people with fully functional brains.

Well, rescue puppy Wallace and I have hit another rite of passage in the never-boring line of "He did what?" baby dog adventures. I just removed the first six-inch strand (not blade) of grass hanging only one inch out of his little muscle butt. So it begins/continues. Happy Wednesday.

Three rescue dogs reclining on the dedicated dog sofa, a hideous brown corduroy thing covered by a dark blue fleece blanket.

From left to right we see Rory (almost ten-year-old red brindle PitMutt™) looking miserable, Wallace (14-week-old caramel and black PitMutt™ puppy), and pillow-for-hire/wrasslin' buddy/big sister Lemmy (almost six-year-old GSD/Husky mix).

Note: My dogs lie and sleep anywhere they want. This sofa is no humans allowed.

[Deletes reply post since y'all can't behave in the comments and the asinine bickering between each other popping up in notifications - not about my reply OR the original post - is like hearing a flock of starving hens or catching your dog eyebrows deep in the cat's litter box.] tl/dr: Grow up.

All of these really, really big (and mostly performative) feelings by so many people who never finished the Cliff Notes of THE ODYSSEY, haven't seen Nolan's film, and had never heard of Emily Wilson before yesterday are truly exhausting.
