academics should be slow, steady, scholars who produce solid, original contributions to specialized fields of research but also: if you want security you'd better be a personable star who can explain everything to anybody in a few small words and serve as the face of your institution's PR campaign

It's so blazingly obvious that this is true. A university lecturer being fired for plagiarism would not be national news >99% of the time. It was inflated into one this time purely because it fit into racist "culture war" narratives about "DEI".

my 15 years in berlin i have lived entirely in neukölln, a place with one of the highest percentage of muslims in germany. i transitioned there. i never had problems from them. the most acute threat to my existence here are the ~25% of germans who vote afd and the other ~25% who vote CDU or CSU
