Physical geographer. Mostly retired. Partial to bogs, landscape photography, mountains, golf and whisky. Not always in that order.

Each time I come to this area I'm compelled to visit this particular spot. The pebbles in the gaps between the eroded basalt columns are just so incredible to me - so neat! The access road is closed so it involved a longer walk to get there, but worth the effort :) Djúpalónssandur #Iceland #Geology

Some grey eroded smooth basalt column tops on a beach, with neat lines of pebbles squeezed into the gaps between them (by the force of waves during high tides). The pebbles are wedged in tightly, but each time I visit some of the pebbles are different - they get swapped out.
