I read Nuclear War: A Scenario shortly after it came out and found myself totally baffled by what people saw in it. The scenario is like Call Of Duty game level fantastical - NK has magic SOSUS evading subs and uses them to launch Exactly Two missiles, one at a random power plant in CA.

Been watching Taiwanese HSR cab-ride videos lately as background noise. Unsurprising I suppose given the geography of the place, but the density of tunnels punched through mountains is kind of crazy. They are playing openTTD with infinite budget over there.

I honestly do not actually understand people’s gut level objections to destructive scanning as a general concept, it seems to inspire levels of revulsion that surprise me. But then I would probably be first in line for a moravec-style destructive brain upload so maybe I’m a general outlier.

Advances in medicine allow older people to become mobile and youthful again, but these newly young old people are unprepared for the world in which they awaken, full of digital wonders and wearable tech, particularly augmented reality, which is everywhere.

In 2018, one former worker died of lung cancer that was likely caused by radiation exposure. Studies conducted by WHO and Tokyo University predict no significant increase in cancer death rates due to the disaster.
