SCREEN Act, which would have required mandatory age-verification for sites (like this) that allow "material harmful to minors" failed to pass out of committee after thousands and thousands of people called their Senators. More work ahead!
Alison Boden@alisonboden.bsky.social · 16h agoThe SCREEN Act just failed to pass in the Senate Commerce Committee! 🎉 Enormous thanks to the thousands (!!) of you who told your Senators to vote no! Your voice matters and you should feel good that you made a difference. Obviously, the fight isn't over, but this was an important victory.
A reminder that while you should still absolutely call / email your reps over KOSA, SCREEN, and any other ACTs trying to brute force ID verification, tomorrow is a markup. A markup is not the same as a full Senate vote. Despite what happens on the 5th, it won't be a 'done deal' for a while.

Mel Blanc (Bugs Bunny) was so dedicated that he had a microphone brought to his hospital bed so he could keep recording his Spacely lines for The Jetsons movie in 1989 before dying from emphysema. He literally performed for his audience on his death bed to keep his characters alive. Respects.
