Some heartbreaking animation news today from people who have been some of my animation heroes. It’s up to us to hold the line and build a better future for animation.
I wish I was surprised but it’s 2026 so of course well respected animators are making AI shows while saying “no no, it’s okay when I do it, I PROMISE”
I need someone to explain how eliminating jobs brings jobs back just… math wise

between this and Elio, I am so glad I didn't go out and try to "make it" in mainstream animation - they would have broken my heart and laughed at me for it.
Pixar’s scrapped film ‘BE FRI’ reportedly had a similar tone to ‘KPop Demon Hunters.’ A former staffer claims Disney felt “little boys couldn’t see themselves in it,” allegedly saying, “We can’t have a girl power movie.”

We’re out here, we’re just bad at social media
What's indie animation's aversion to comedy? Every new indie cartoon is Grimdark; existential horror, drama, dark themes, blah, blah, blee, blah. Why doesn't any indie artist just want to make a comedy? Why don't indie artists like fun?

Anyway we should support Julián (Cartoon Saloon) when it comes out! Based on the beautiful kids book "Julián is a Mermaid" and shaping up to be very openly queer in presentation and has a queer writer on the team (Juliany Taveras) Let's support those who aren't afraid of helping tell our stories.
There's really no need for such dismissive language in regards to something that is important to a lot of people. Besides "Luca" is the gayest Pixar movie we'll ever need. deadline.com/2026/03/pixa...
Pixar’s Pete Docter Says Queer ‘Elio’ Storyline Was Axed Because “We’re Making A Movie, Not Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars Of Therapy”
Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter explained the animation company's decision to ax a queer storyline in last year's Elio.

This quote isnt just out of touch or disappointing, its fucking dark. Gay people are not a conversation parents need to have with their kids? Knowing gay people exist doesnt require therapy?? Any parents who thinks that way needs to have their kids removed ASAP. Get in a volcano, Pete.
Pixar CCO Pete Docter says they removed gay elements from ‘ELIO’ after finding some parents didn’t want entertainment forcing conversations with their kids they weren’t ready for. “We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy.” (via www.wsj.com/business/med...)
